“fun for all ages”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

The Roman Palace is really wirth a visit, if not only for all the findings and archeological literature (which I just love) there is so much to see. The way the museum is laid out is great, you can easily see the exhibits and really get a feel of what life might have been like for the Roamn's that once lived upon this land. The ticket pricing reflects the hard work ad skill that has gone into discovering and preserving the artifacts in situ. There is plenty for children to do and enjoy on the way around the museum.

“An interesting view on our Roman history”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2012

On holiday in the area and decided to visit the Palace as they were offering ‘meet the Romans’ activities for the October half-term. Yes the cost of the entry fee at £21.50 for a family of four seemed quite high but for what the Sussex Archaeological Society is having to protect I think it was money well spent.
I have to say that if it was not for the special events on offer my kids would have probably rushed through the Palace and missed out on just how special a place it is. As it was the ‘meet the Romans’ activities meant that my other half and I were free to take in the splendour of the mosaics and the other exhibits on offer.
The volunteers that staff the place were friendly and helpful and really engaged our children in the history of the Romans. I would recommend that if you have young children that the Palace on its own without the special events on offer might not be as engaging for them, but if you love history then this place is worth a visit simply for the ability of getting close to the astounding 1800 year old mosaics.

“Fascinating glimpse in to Roman History presented in a friendly inclusive way”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2012 via mobile

I visited Fishbourne Roman Palace after having lived in the area for a while previously but never managing to visit. Now I'm sad I didn't go earlier.

It is a very engaging attraction. The work they have done in presenting and interpreting such a huge archaeological dig is much apparent in the displays.

What also impressed me was the fact that the story of the dig was told alongside the Roman history. The dig was led by experts but staffed by volunteers and their stories also feature in displays which gives the whole experience a grounding in the local community.

When I visited it was half term & children were everywhere but the museum had cleverly designated it "Roman Army Week" and the children had a series of activities to help them enlist such as roman writing, spear throwing, food and medicine lessons. All this was handled by teenage volunteers / staff who did a brilliant job of channelling the youngsters energy. Accordingly the exhibits never felt overrun.

Overall an excellent attraction, competitively priced. My only quibble, if UK residents apply gift aid they get half price entry for the rest of the year - that's good but many attractions offer free for the year with gift aid. Either way I would return & have already recommended it to family.
