Went to the Black Rabbit in a group of 15 on 19th Jan 2013. There were not many people in when we visited and remained that way all evening but we had had a fair bit of snowfall and the temperatures were in minus figures which would explain why. The staff were very welcoming, friendly and couldn't do enough to accommodate us. We ordered a range of sharing starters which were on the whole tasty and hot, though my Blue Vinney Stuffed Mushrooms was a tad greasy and not overly tasty, I toyed between a steak and the Lobster Bisque fish pie, I opted for the fish pie but to be honest for £15 I was disappointed with the quality and quantity. There was little fish and what there was, was dry and overcooked and in little sauce. The potato was not pleasant tasting and again dry and the topping which was grainy in texture seemed to dry the dish even more, the dish was accompanied by a small colander holding a few spoons of peas. My friend next to me had opted for the Sirloin steak which was also overcooked and dry, sadly to the point that she left half of it which is a sad waste. My husband opted for a Blue Cheese Burger which again was nothing out of the ordinary, quite dry and the chips were again overcooked. We were amused that the chips were served in what looked like upcycled baked bean tins. There were some positives though one of our group had the Cheddar Glazed Smoked Haddock which was said to be delicious as was the Steak & Tanglefoot Pie. As it was a birthday do that we were out for all but 2 of our party opted for puddings and again a very mixed bag here, sadly the over riding feeling was that the portion sizes were very small, one person opted for the mini puds sharing deserts which came in small glasses with lots of air space in with the actual pudding. Some of our party complained of dry crumbles, too small and not overly tasty. That said the ice cream which came on the side of some and which one of our party had was absolutely gorgeous and well worth having. I would visit again and am confident that any small lapses are likely to do with the large number of us that evening.
