“Quaint inn, great location in heart of Arundel”

St Mary's Gate Inn

Myself and my boyfriend celebrated our 2 year anniversary at this hotel and found it to be situated in the heart of Arundel, which meant we were a stone's throw from the main attractions.

We booked the dinner, bed and breakfast package which was great value. The food was nice, the portions were large and the choice was plentiful at dinner and breakfast, however the full English was disappointing.

We stayed in the Castle room which had a four poster bed, a great bonus! The room was clean and spacious, however the only complaint is that the walls are thin and we could hear noise throughout the night with some doors slamming and our neighbour constantly shouting!

The staff were all pleasant and welcoming and the bar had a really homely feel.

We would definitely recommend this hotel to all who want a good base to explore Arundel and the surrounding area!

“The worst hotel I have ever stayed in...”

St Mary's Gate Inn

I have never stayed in such a bad hotel...
The window was broken (although this was acknowledged by a free drink)
The bathroom dirty
No shampoo/ conditioner
Bed harder than the floor and the icing on top of the cake was the owner... He made Basil Fawlty look charming.
When we told him of our discontent he chuckled in a condescending way and replied 'there is nothing wrong with the room - I sleep in it myself on occasion' - reasurring...

“Overpriced and dirty...”

Arrived for a weekend visit to find out window boarded up as it had been broken the night before and it went downhill from there. Shower did not work, bathroom needed cleaning (and quite frankly decorating). We spent the entire weekend as far away from the room as possible and when we did finally sleep, the bed was the most uncomfortable I have slept in. We complained in the morning and a rather smug self satisfied manager was rude and condescending explaining that "of course the room was 'tired' but it was being refurbished next year." Gave us £10 off for the window, but £80 for the stay was far too much... If you want a good nights sleep and a clean and comfortable stay, avoid this place like the plague...

We stayed for a week end. Town is very nice, but this hotel is in need of TLC.
Bathrooms and bedrooms were very dated. Food just o.k.
Not a place I would go back to or recommend.

Arundel is a charming town and this hotel was equally so. I can't believe some of the very few bad comments that have been written. I can only guess that they were written by some jealous local hotel owners. The room was comfortable and quiet, the breakfast was a well cooked typical English "fry up" as the waitress called it, and the bathroom was modern and roomy. To the person who said they had barely room to use the toilet, all I can say is that you must need to lose an awful lot of weight!!!
