We used to frequently dine at the old Arundel House restaurant before it closed so had high hopes for the newly opened Arundel House & Brasserie. How wrong could we be!!
We visited with two friends, making up a pre-booked table for four. I was the only one to have a starter - snails. Now, I do enjoy my snails and have ordered them in many countries and have received many styles of presentation. Imagine my surprise when (25 minutes later) a small bowl of snails and peas arrived with a stale piece of barely toasted bread sticking out of the bowl. No sauce, no garnish. Given the taste and texture of the dish, I wondered if a certain high street frozen food supplier had started doing snails! Horrid.
We were still waiting for the wine at this stage. When asked when it would arrive, the waitress dashed off, found the bottle (already opened) and plonked it wordlessly on the table...
By the time we'd finished that bottle of wine around a further 25 minutes later, there was still no sign of our main courses. The waitress had no idea when they would arrive, other diners, hearing our questions then also started complaining they were also still waiting (one table had been waiting 45 minutes for their mains, though to be fair they had passed the time tucking into the vino!). We asked for the bill and left.
If you want a consistently great dining experience, go to the Town House (I'm not the owner nor affiliated to him!).
