We visited on a Saturday lunchtime for my birthday, not having been to The Boathouse for about 5 years, so weren't sure what to expect after all that time. The setting is beautiful, but the river was very high due to the recent rains. The staff and owner were very welcoming in a friendly way, not overpowering. We all chose the carvery and it was excellent. Roast beef, roast pork, crackling, yorkshire pudding, cauli cheese, carrots, green beans, boiled potatoes, roast potatoes, apple sauce, horseradish sauce and gravy. All cooked to absolute perfection. We weren't charged for our son as he is 5, but his plate was still piled high! Although it's nice to be told we wouldn't have to pay for him, they really are doing themselves a disservice - we would have been more than happy to pay for him, say £5.00. We all had a dessert - I had creme brulee, my husband had apple & blackberry crumble, and our son had ice cream. They were all divine and we were all VERY full up! How anyone can eat 3 courses when choosing the carvery is beyond me! I had a soft drink, my husband had a beer, and our son just had water. We both had coffee after the meal. The bill came to a very reasonable £42.00. We waddled out vowing to return soon.
