My wife and I arrived in Arundal on Tuesday evening looking for somewhere to stay and we were very pleased we tried the Norfolk Arms. We received a friendly welcome from Julio who showed us a couple of rooms - we chose the larger room, which at only £70 for bed and breakfast for two we thought was very good value. True that things are not in perfect shape here, as pointed out in by another reviewer, but this is an old hotel with character and charm. We stayed in room 12, at the back of the hotel on the 2nd floor. This room was huge, with plenty of room for two separate sitting areas, one with a comfortable sofa, the other with two elegant chairs in front of the TV. The bed was also very elegant and extremely comfortable and the room was beautifully quiet. The bathroom, although perfectly adequate, was nothing special but was spotlessly clean, which in our book is most important of all.
We planned to have dinner in the restaurant but first went for a drink in the charming bar with its fabulous, roaring log fire. The lady who served us suggested we might like to stay in the bar to eat in front of the fire, which we did, and very pleasant it was too. The meal was excellent, as was beer and the genuinely friendly service from all the hotel staff during our stay.
Breakfast in the bright and imposing breakfast room was good, although the radio blaring out the local radio station's morning programme of pop music from under the buffet table was a trifle irritating and we eventually initiated a move, supported by other guests, to have it silenced.
As we were only there for a short time, we didn't get to enjoy relaxing in the impressive and cosy-looking lounge with its panelled walls and open fire, but we hope to do so in the future.
The hotel is perfectly located in the heart of this lovely town, a few steps away from the impressive-looking castle (which is unfortunately closed at this time of the year), and has plenty of parking space at the back.
We will certainly be making a return trip to Arundal and we know where we'll be staying.

Dear John S,

Thank you for calling into the Hotel on the off chance that we may have had a room, I am so pleased to read that we made you so comfortable and that you had such a pleasant time - so much so that you will be returning to us once the Castle re-opens in the Spring.
We look forward to seeing you then.
