Owner description: St. Mary’s Guildhall is one of the finest surviving medieval guildhalls in England, and has been one of Coventry's premier historic venues for more than 600 years. First built in the 1340s for the merchant guild of St. Mary, with its magnificent medieval interiors, and fine artworks the Guildhall offers a window into Coventry's glorious past. Once a prison to Mary, Queen of Scots, and even a playhouse where Shakespeare is thought to have performed, the Guildhall provides a fascinating free experience for all ages, at the historic heart of the city. St. Mary's Guildhall is available for weddings, meetings, conferences and private functions, whilst in the vaulted undercroft beneath St. Mary's Guildhall is the atmospheric Godiva's cafe, offering tasty snacks and refreshments.

“Lovely old Guild building”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2013

This was very interesting, very ornate decoration on the ceiling of the Hall with all the crests of different Guilds. a lot of history within the rooms.
It is used as a private venue for weddings and functions.

“It was the most interesting historic place for me in Coventry”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

It is situated among old streets in the center of the town, near the Cathedral. There are several wooden halls in the building. Everything looks very natural and in a good state. There were some armor items that it is possible to wear on, feel like a knight and make a picture.

“Hidden gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2013 via mobile

This wonderful medieval building is hidden next to the cathedral. Worth the visit to see the beautiful interior and the uneven floors and walls.

“Coventry Guildhall”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

This is a wonderful medieval guildhall, the Great Hall has a colourful ceiling with carved angels and bosses, and the end wall an important tapestry, also medieval stained glass windows. It is fascinating to wander through the ancient rooms, one with a markedly sloping floor!
