“High-rise, near the station”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

I have stayed here twice. You can walk from Coventry station but it is not in the nicest area. Rooms and bathrooms are lovely. Breakfast is splendid with a good choice at the buffet. The Italian restaurant on the ground floor serves excellent meals. It is a very tall building and the views can be good if you are on the "right" side.

This is one of the ugliest hotels I have stayed in. Albeit internally it has recently been refurbished and I have to admit that my room was reasonably sized and equipped. Indeed I do have to conclude that the bathroom was lovely with a generously sized walk-in shower where previously there must have been a slightly too small bath.
The service was poor, I had been out for a run, came back in through the main reception and asked for a room service order to be taken. I might as well have asked if they could hold my atomic bomb for me, to take a room service order at reception was clearly not possible. I was informed that I could walk into the dining room in my somewhat sweaty state and order my meal there, what other diners may have thought about that I dread to think.
So I went to my room, placed the order over the phone (chicken Caesar salad) (I am sure that the 'phone reverted to reception, when it was not answered in the restaurant). I could not order soda water but could order a large bottle of fizzy water. My meal arrived promptly but was spoilt as the salad was sparse, the dressing none existent and the chicken was truly rubbery, by this time I was very hungry and in no mood to argue so ate it.
Bed was good and the sound insulation of the room from external noise was good, noise from neighbouring bedrooms was less well insulated, fortunately my fellow travellers were a lethargic bunch and no late night revels ensued.
Breakfast was OK, somewhat predictable buffet but the coffee was excellent.

I'm getting increasingly fed up with negative reviews on this site where they are not warranted. I wonder whether people expect 5* luxury wherever they go, for £59 a night which is what we paid here. This hotel is more than adequate. Our room was a sort of 'mini suite' with a sofa and small sitting room area and a bedroom area. It was clean and fresh. White fluffy towels, comfy bed, huge power shower, complimentary shampoo etc. What do people want???? The staff were great, and the breakfast fantastic at £7.50 a head. It was plentiful and we were told you could go up as many times as you like. The bread was fresh, the bacon and gags great, and there was fruit, pastries, croissants along with all the usual cereal options. Fresh coffee brought to you as well. We are not 'easily pleased' people, we know good from bad but there really was nothing to complain about. We had a very pleasant stay, no complaints at all and I can't see how anyone could complain. And by the way, it isn't all takeaways as the last reviewer said, what is that about? We went to a fantastic Lebanese restaurant a few meters away called Aqua and highly recommend it. There are other restaurants too within steps of each other.

I stayed here several nights over several weeks and rarely had a good experience.
I found the concrete carpark and the concrete hotel surrounded by concrete thoroughly depressing - I know that this is a 'city centre' hotel but the only things in sight were run dwon takeaways!
The building is tall and narrow so finding a room where you are not constantly hearing the lift is a challenge let alone one where the tv and the shower works!
The staff are friendly enough but cannot make up for the building maintenance or indeed the restocking of the kitchen etc where half the time 30% of the items were not available - indeed they could not even supply the 'wyndams rewards' chocolate bar on most of my stays! Whilst generally the Italian food was great the breaksfasts were poor - the only place where they have a sign saying 'Bakery' and all there is is sliced bread for you to toast - very occassionaly there were small muffins.
Find somewhere else to stay unless this is purely a airport stop off

Stayed 1 night. Room was very comfortable with sofa area. Nice shower area, no bath. Breakfast was buffet style and was fine, had ran out of plates and had to ask a number of times for some before they arrived . Staff friendly and courteous. Didn't eat in the restaurant but for information menu was mostly Italian based.

Myself and my partner have stayed here three times now, and each time have found the hotel to be well run, very clean and well decorated. Staff have been friendly and discrete, and twice we have been upgraded for free - once to a multi room apartment. The food in the restaurant is very good and not unreasonably expensive. The views from the higher floors show Coventry in the best possible light, but you have to be unrealistic. I am surprised by comments about the hotel being a distance from the centre - unless you have difficulties walking it is no chore at all, maybe 5 minutes brisk walk. Room service was also quick, although as always the food was not as hot as we'd have liked!

The Butts area is a little run down and the street that the hotel is on looks rather shabby, but this is Coventry and as with the rest of the city you miss out on a lot if you judge by appearances. For what it's worth the kebab shop opposite has a great charcoal grill and is highly recommended.
