This pub has become a regular of ours as My Fantastic Mother in Law loves their homemade pies and to be honest they are wonderful. You really can't fault the food here. It is well cooked and the portions are generous. There is a fantastic choice and the bar staff are always eager to make sure that any change to your order is noted.
We have been twice in the last fortnight and I have to be honest and say the pub is now letting itself down. With the brighter sunlight you can't help but notice that the furnishings in the place and the decor is just downright scruffy. I've always complained about the dust but this is now shown in all its full horror with the new bright light this summer has rewarded us with.
The pub has an absolutely fabulous garden and outside space. Again it is scruffy. There is nowhere to put out cigarettes and so the ground is littered with them. There is litter all over the place and the grounds are neglected.
There are a number of benches and tables outside but only two are in the shade. One under a tree and one in the shade of the hotel. None of the tables have umbrellas which is a real shame because as we are all finding out - sitting outside in full sunlight isn't pleasant at the moment.
Inside today, it was filled with flies. Made eating a bit of a nightmare. The bar staff are genuinely good at their jobs but just recently the owners have been nothing if not grumpy. I was talking to the guy that owns it whilst he was changing a barrel and he informed me that he was only doing it to please the grumpy Yorkshire that would be in later!!
So a great place in the winter but not one for the summer.
