“Pleasantly surprised”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2013

Came here on Friday evening for a few drinks, service at bar was pleasant and quick, being offered a choice of relevant beer. Music was not too loud so therefore could stil hold conversations with people we were with. Toilets were spotlessly clean and with the added bonus of the make up and perfume lady in the womens ones. Will be returning on a lunchtime to try out the food but on first impressions looking forward to next visit.

“Afternoon tea”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2013

Went there for afternoon tea as part of a deal. The food was good; sandwiches, fries, cakes and coffee but the service was a bit rude. It reminded me of a really grouchy school dinner lady I had; so bad it was comical. The building itself was nice and i enjoyed what we ate. If there was another deal, I would go back. It wasn't special enough or nice enough though to go back and pay full price.

“Don't order a cocktail!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013 via mobile

Are not capable of making a simple cocktail of THEIR menu.
On two separate occasions we ordered cocktails and did not get what we ordered. They think it ok to just make it up and miss out ingredients that they do not have.

“Nice food in nice surroundings”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2013

We went there as a couple to redeem a groupon voucher for a winter afternoon tea for two (£14 for sandwich with salad and chips or sandwich and soup, trio of desserts for 2 and tea or coffee). The location is great, right in the centre facing the cathedral and the restaurant room is bright and comfortable. At first we weren't sure because we waited to be seated/spoken to and 3 members of staff went passed us without a glance (including a person I thought might have been the manager, who was a little stuck up at the checkout as well, not what you would expect), this explains the 4 stars instead of 5. The waitresses we spoke to however were pleasant and although I was told the soup was carrot and coriander (which turned out to be mushrooms!), the food was delightful (prawn in bloody mary sauce was great). We had a quick look at the menu and it did look like expensive pub food (burgers, steaks and pizza, not very original) but our deal was good and we really enjoyed it.

“lovely building, average everything else”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2012

The Establishment is in a great location opposite the Cathedral and housed in the old County Hall which is a lovely setting. Can't comment too much on the food as i was there as part of a works Christmas 'do' and i have to say Christmas meals aren't a fair reflection of a restaurants normal output. If it is, then the food is overcooked, cold and service haphazard. For example, the veg came out when most people were half way through the main course and the cranberry sauce arrived when most people had finished...........Also, my starter of paté, which whilst tasting nice, had the consistency of a mousse that had been out of the fridge too long. Oh well, maybe try the food again after Christmas and judge properly then! Drinks wise, the local ale, Byatts, was off, the Doom Bar was off so i had to settle for Estrella on draught which was fine. Atmosphere was pretty good as there were some large parties in there but it was difficult to tell who this bar appeals to as the clientele (minus the work parties) was mostly older men on their own with that curious plastic carrier bag, contents unknown. Anyway, to be honest, any new bar in Coventry can't be a bad thing as it's seriously lacking some decent pubs and bars, let alone restaurants. Room for improvement, definitely, but not bad.
