“A bit like a Land Rover Defender”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

I've eaten here probably 10-12 times in the last couple of years, normally with family, sometimes with friends......I'd certainly go back....and I certainly speak highly of the place. The restaurant and bar area is an amalgamation of rustic rural pub with some more modern lighting and glass architecture. I've never had to send a meal back and I don't have any specific complaints that jump to mind..

At peak times when it's busy, they do often seem a tad short staffed, but then it's not a fine dining restaurant.....closer to a gastropub.......even so, the staff are attentive and considerate.

It's nice to have somewhere fairly nearby which is quintessentially a pub, but which offers fresh cooked food and a good selection of drinks which aren't your standard generic lagers and wines. I've always enjoyed the atmosphere, very unthreatening, very friendly. It's also great to enjoy a selection of foods which are a country mile away from the standard boring deep fried pub grub we see all too often....

I can understand why in a previous review the environment was perceived to be dirty, however there is, I think, a discernible difference between dirt and the rustic sawn timber and old cobbled floors which are part of the fabric of the pub. Like the toilets, which are sanitised and hygienic but also very antiquated......but i think it's the unmodernised parts of a pub like this which allow it to keep it's character and personality....

Worth a visit if you like to eat out casually, especially for Sunday lunch.....

Oh and the Land Rover Defender.....a time-honoured car, reliable, modernised through the years, somewhat refined, at home in the country, but essentially a cut above it's average counterpart....

“Top notch.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2012

During a visit to family in the area we went for a meal at the pub. The staff were very friendly, helpfull and efficient. The food was to a very high standard and piping hot which isnt always the case in such a busy enviroment. Would definately recommend dining here.

“Don't bother”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2012

Poor service, dirty environment and dated menu. We live a 2 minute walk away from this place and in the last 4 years this restaraunt has been consistent in providing poor service, its quicker to go to the bar yourself than rely on table service, the place is dirty, check out the candle wax dripped all over the floor and dirty radiators, which is not a vote of confidence. The menu is dated and boaring and if you order vegetables for 2 is the same size for those of 4 plus. We have tried on numerous occassions to give them the benefit of the doubt but even after complaining, they really don't care and the young staff enjoy having a debate with an unhappy customer. PLEASE don't bother trust me the place is a joke and a rip off, don't wast your time or money, go to the Queens Head 500 meters up the road, much better service and value for money.
