“no organisation”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2012

stayed 2 nights with organised coach party, first two rooms allocated were occupied, so they tried to put us in a smoking double, (smoking allowed on 7th floor) we declined so after an hours wait in bar and early dinner they finally found us an empty room, badly needs decorating and beds were awful, woke both mornings with backache, net curtains needed a wash, windows so dirty on outside couldn't see out, chaos in restuarant for breakfast, was given alloted time but no tables free, staff unfriendly, we had a coach package deal which was a bargain, glad i never paid price of £200 PER NIGHT!! would never stay there again....

I stopped at the Britannia as I work nearby and needed to be in extra early one morning without the hassle of catching a train. Unfortunately the Travelodge was full so I decided to give the Britannia a go even though I have only ever heard bad reviews. The member of staff on reception was very abrupt and did not make me feel at all welcome. The whole hotel looks old and tatty, although I admit it did appear generally clean. The corridors were awful and not in keeping with the rest of the hotel. My room was a good size but again tatty. Damaged and dirty nets, old fashioned fixtures and fittings and tatty wallpaper. Then there was the bathroom!!! The toilet roll holder had the bar missing so the toilet roll was stored on the sink unit. Even Mr Tickle would struggle to reach. The sink was badly scratched and the shower was black with mould and mildew. Everything was in serious need of refurbishment. At £60 for one night it was terrible value for money and I certainly will not return.

have to say at the outset my stay here was only ever going to be a one night stop over. So l chose a central location. That is the big plus for this hotel it is right next to cathedral. After that it goes down hill rapidly. The room was a fair size. The facilities within the room were basic but okay, if you did not mind broken electric sockets, cracked wash basin and a toilet which overflowed when flushed. The shower cable was black with age and dirt/rust. The bed was small, uncomfortable and provided the worst night sleep i have ever had. I realise that this is not a four star hotel but this was poor by any standard. Great location rubbish stay.

Got told hotel had a major electrical fault and have to go to another hotel. Yet the woman next to me was given two rooms.
Hotel stinks of stale smoke. Reception rude.
Dont waste your money.ive never stayed in such a poor hotel and will not be returning, i would rather sleep in my car.

Just had three nights here with a coach party...we paid £109 in TOTAL so the hotel didn't make much out of us at all! Room was large, clean, and the hospitality tray was excellent, as was the provision of toiletries and even tissues. Mealtimes were a little hectic, but the choice of food was very good; evening meals being served carvery style, with plenty of meat...the rest help yourself. The same applied to breakfast....it wasn't their fault that different coach parties were late for meals, therefore disrupting the timing for everyone else. You couldn't get more central, with the Cathedral and Coventry Transport Museum in sight from your window, and buses galore right outside. For a cheap short break with everything nearby you could do a lot worse!

Room Tip: The higher the better

My friend and I had the misfortune to stay here on a recent trip to Stratford and Blenheim. The room and bedding stank of smoke. The beds were lumpy and uncomfortable. The toilet pan was badly cracked all round and stuck together with yellow glue. The basin was also cracked. The room was not very clean but the heating worked well and as we were on the top floor it was not noisy. The restaurant and bar were so busy will very few staff and no managers visible so queues were very long. My friend was served half a crust of a white sliced bread with her pate. The plates were cold and at breakfast there were seats and no juice glasses. We saw one elderley man make up his own bacon butty and take it to reception to sit and eat it as he couldn't get a table. Never again!
