“Excellent Clean and well located hotel.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

This hotel was a fantastic stay. It's exceptionally clean, very polite staff (Duty Manager's name was John I think?), well located hotel which is 10min drive from Bull Ring round the back way!

The rooms are modern and up to date and breakfast is very good! I had the best sleep ever in a long time as the beds are wide and pillows are comfy.

All in all, I can see why this is up there for best hotels in Birmingham. I've stayed in Radisson, Hilton, Marriott etc, and would pick this one over them all. Parking is free is one of the selling points! Most of the above hotels named charge £15 a night which is quite dear in Parter Car parks, but felt safe with mine in the car park in Holiday Inn Express.

Thanks for a pleasant stay :)

Room Tip: You will save money on parking if you stay here as parking is free. Also, its a 10min drive to Bull...

Just enjoyed a short city break to visit Birmingham Xmas market. Bedrooms are spacious, warm ,clean and comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful despite not serving any bacon?
Downsides are no bath to enjoy a soak after a long day out. Also bar and restaurant were empty during the evening and shut at lunchtime, leaving guests no incentive to use the hotel facilities.
Also if you are expecting to enjoy an evening drink in nearby Star city, think again, unless eating none of the restaurants allow you to just purchase just drinks! Very odd, unless you are a gambler then the casino will allow use of their bar!

Room Tip: Ask to sleep away fro the star city road, commuters to the motorway start around 3am!

We paid £44 for our nights stay, to visit the Christmas markets in Brum. The hotel is great, rooms large and well planned out. The hotels in an industrial area, very near to Star City, where there's lots to do and eat. You can get a bus into Brum for £2, and a taxi back for £8, so it's ok for a night out. Overall good, oh and it's 5 minutes from M6 Spagetti junction!

The bedrooms are currently being redecorated as the hotel has just become a Holiday Inn Express. Both mine and my friend's rooms were clean and warm and to an overall good standard. My bed was particularly uncomfortable although the pillows were quite comfortable.

The service was terrible!! Not one of the staff members smiled or made conversation. They were there to do a job and nothing more. I had several grumpy responses to simple questions and was left with a bitter taste in my mouth while checking out. I approached the counter and asked to check out. The man didn't look up from his computer, simply saying "room?" and holding his hand out for my room keycard. He then said "all done, thanks" and carried on typing. I found this rude and unattentive.

Breakfast was a simple buffet (although a good selection of yogurts) and we were crammed into a small lounge area to eat. We had to squeeze past other diners to get to and from the buffet. The croissants were great but the sausages were greasy and didn't taste of meat, the scrambled eggs were powdery and the beans were salty. No bacon which was a shame and no vegetarian sausages etc.

Would I return? No.

Don't normally write reviews. But the overall positivity of the previous reviews on this site irritated me.
The room was neat and tidy, decent bathroom with a comfy clean bed. But the room had the distinct aroma of cheesy feet. I left my window open the entire stay but that made no difference.
The sink was blocked and the air cond/heating unit did not work. Not heat! Not ideal in November. The staff member offered me a portable heater which arrived about 2 hours later. Not really the staff members fault as he was working on his own! He went on to explain that it was a common problem as the company that had installed the units had gone bust!
Breakfast was poor and had run out of sausage and egg both mornings.
So... not enough staff. No heating. Room smelt like feet and a poor breakfast. But other than that tip top

Room Tip: ask for one that doesnt smell of feet

Had a two night stay here in October whilst watching Horse of teh Year Show at the NEC. Great value for money - we were expecting basic but clean, much like a Premier Inn, but I have to say it exceeded expectations. The room was clean and modern and having free wifi was great. Was also suprised to haveair conditioning and windows you could open, as quite often you get stuck with one or the other. Okay, so the location isn't the prettiest in the world, right next to Star City and with a view of the gas towers from teh room window, but for convenience when driving to teh NEC and having the restaurants of Star City on the doorstep it was just what we wanted as a base. Good variety of food on the breakfast buffet in the morning and free 'i' newspapers. Would stay at other hotels in this chain.
