This hotel is right in the middle of a popular part of Birmingham and sits atop of a sizeable underground car park. The hotel appears fresh and new inside with a pleasant smell to it (which I was told later is part of the Travelodge experience - a trademark air freshener). The room was fairly basic but clean, modern, flat screen TV, very comfortable bed and pillows - exactly what I was hoping for in a budget-priced hotel. There was paid-for WiFi but I didn't use it. There was a poor mobile signal (on Vodafone) in the hotel but max signal outside the front door. The staff were friendly. Check-in took 2 mins as I had pre-paid and no form filling was required; same with check-out. The breakfast was good with a wide range of cereals, fruit, fruit juices, hot food, toast etc. It was good to notice that yoghurts and milk were kept in a small glass-fronted refridgerator to keep them at their best, and hot foods were brought out in smaller dishes regularly to avoid them drying up under the heated surfaces. I arrived around 4pm, which must be a quiet time for check-in, and there was nobody on the desk, however there was a sign and a buzzer and someone immediately appeared when I buzzed. I tried the bar in the late evening and found the staff friendly and that they had a reasonable range of wines available by the glass. Security is good with no access to the corridors leading to rooms unless you have a room key card to open the door.
I would definitely stay there again, and would recommend it.
