“Good Hotel Except for Unexpected Early Wake Up Call !”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2013

We stayed here for one night on Sat 28th Sept, to attend a Place in The Sun Show at the NEC. We stayed in a family room as we had our young son with us. The room was surprisingly spacious with a huge bed for us and 2 fully made up single beds too. Bathroom had a lovely big bath and all was clean and comfortable. There were no frills in the room...no minibar or luxury toiletries etc, but equally there is everything you need for a very pleasant stay. Except for the unwanted early morning call, which I'm sure was just an unlucky one-off. The fire alarms sounded at 05:25 ish and although they were quickly turned off, it was a very sudden awakening and difficult to get back to sleep. Reception informed us the next morning that there had been a power outage which triggered all the alarms when the power went back on. One thing I would say about the hotel is that we were expecting it to be a short walk to the NEC, but it takes about 20 mins so its not quite as close as some other NEC hotels. The restaurant was good with standard pub grub style food on offer. It was very busy on a Sat night so I'd recommend you book in advance if you want to eat there. If you don't want to eat there, be prepared to book a taxi as the hotel is not within walking distance of local restaurants.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms that are situated away from staircases, lifts or communal doors for a quieter night. I...

Stayed for one night as going to Birmingham NIA which was only a short drive away, and the NEC the next day. The car park charge was included as part of my booking so left the car and walked to the NEC. You can walk but need to cross a bit of a cross country route to do it. Took us 10 mins so worth it as it was £10 to park for our exhibition. Had a room at the back of the hotel which was clean, comfortable and quiet. Breakfast was a good selection. Staff very good and cheery. Handy for the airport, BHam centre and the NEC. Will use again when in the area.

Room Tip: Car park is at the front but although not much view at the rear it was quiet. Can hear the odd plane...

We stayed here 0n 18/9/13 for one night and 8 days parking which cost just over £100, on check in we told the receptionist we had booked a room for our return 26/9/13 and asked if we would be covered to park for that night also to which she confirmed we would. I think charging paying guest to park is wrong when they are patronising the hotel. Our room on both occasions was spotlessly clean, and we had a reasonable sleep, we didn't check in till 00.50 on our return and just managed to purchase a drink before the bar closed at 1.00am. We would definitely use this hotel again when flying from BHX airport providing we don' get charged for parking, unless of course we do the park and fly deal.

We arrived Saturday 28th to go to the bike show at the NEC and had pre-booked both a room for 1 night and breakfast for 2 the following morning.
The rooms are basic but adequate. We were situated right by 2 main doors and these are not quiet by any means. So every time someone uses them - regularly - we heard it as the walls and doors are pretty thin. Nonetheless, we didn't mind as it was only for 1 night.
We had dinner downstairs in the Thyme restaurant at 5pm and were the first ones there too as it had just opened. The food is delicious. 2 criticisms were the fact that they dress the side salad in a disgusting vinaigrette dressing, so the customer has no option with this. Perhaps place this alongside and we can add it only if we wish to? Also because it was quiet, the waitresses stood around chatting to each other in a group of 4, quite close to our table. There may not be much for them to do at this point, but at least look busy!
As mentioned, the food was delicious and beautifully presented in a rustic fashion. Would thoroughly recommend the smoked hot dog with all the trimmings.
We managed to fall asleep about 11pm and actually didn't hear any doors banging shut at all. HOWEVER. At 5.30am, we both jumped out of our skin as a piercing fire alarm went off in our room. We later found out that every room has one, not just a corridor. This went off for about 3 minutes and all the power went off for about 10 minutes. We could not see a thing, being an unfamiliar room, we don't know what is where and it is quite frightening.
My husband had just managed to get changed in the dark ready to go downstairs and find out what on earth was going on, when all the lights and TV came on.
We eventually fell back asleep and nothing else came of it.
At 8.15am, we went downstairs for breakfast. A tall man called Mark in a pink ill-fitting shirt said "morning" to us. We greeted him and gave him our name as we had pre-booked. He barked a sarcastic "room number?" So we told him. He showed us a table and left us to it. We found his aggressive tone unacceptable and we feel it may have been related to the early morning wake up call all his guests got. We could hear all the neighbouring tables talking about this mornings event and I expect he had a few complaints, but don't take it out in those who haven't said a thing to you.
Despite this, no one apologised for it, even when we checked out. We asked the receptionist if we could have a refund under their Good nights sleep guarantee. She immediately added our room number to a whole list of other room numbers and stated she would deal with it. But again, no apology or explanation whatsoever.
Here's hoping we see our money back. But the purple palace has let us down twice now on 2 occasions. Getting the money back is a good thing, but it all comes down to actually wanting a good nights sleep itself - not claiming back on their guarantee!

We stopped here on the 23/09/2013 (a group of 7 of us and we got 4 rooms) and upon entering the hotel we had a lovely warm greeting and were dealt with immediately by very friendly staff, once we had all been seen to and given our room keys and told where to go we all went up to our rooms (we were on the second floor), the rooms were lovely and clean which was a great thing to walk into after traveling all day, the room its self was lovely and there were tea and coffee facilities in the room and a hair dryer, the bathroom was lovely and clean (with 2 towels provided), the only down side was the view from out room but we were only there for a night and somewhere to lay our heads for the night so it was no problem to us. We then went down to try and book a table for that evening in the restaurant for the 7 of us and we were told that we could not have a table sitting together which was a let down so going down for our meal the restaurant was empty yet we were seated on 2 separate tables (and the empty tables were still empty when we left) the prices in the restaurant were ridiculous for what we got and this was a big let down considering how lovely the hotel is. The staff in the hotel were very attentive and tended to our every need. Over all it was a very pleasant stay and would definitely recommend to anyone!

Booked this Premier Inn as part of a park and fly deal. As soon as we checked in they offered to book us a taxi to the airport, which duly arrived on time. As always Premier Inn delivers. It probably wasn't the best value as we only parked for 4 nights but paid for 8.
The taxi fare there was six pounds but coming back it was 9.40 as you have to pay a surcharge from the airport
