“Nice comfy hotel in the heart of the City”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2013

We stayed at the Radisson Blu on a cold winter's weekend for a short 2 night break. It was a welcome sight from the cold snowy weather when we arrived. The room was large, with very comfortable beds and great views over the City. Breakfast was buffet style but very good quality, with efficient and attentive staff. Only thing that let's this hotel down is it's rather small bar situated off the lobby - which has very limited seating and can become very rowdy - not the place for a relaxing drink or two. A good and comfortable stay though overall.

Room Tip: Try and secure a room on Floor 18 at the top of the hotel - the views over the City are great and th...

This is the only hotel that we stay in and use for special occasions every year, the room was clean, however air con issues were told of to reception but no one got back to us as hotel was very busy this weekend, also the curtains were not blackout curtains so as it hit sunrise we were woken up by the daylight, uncomfortable sleep spoiled my birthday, not been like this before so don't know what happened, will be using other hotels for our stays in Birmingham now.

Got a business room. Free nespresso ! Free on demand movies. Good bed and close to city centre. The chinatown side is walking distance where you can find nice food. One extra the crew of Emirates also sleep here.

Booked it for business. Initially booked 2 days and due to something else, had to book an extra day but in a more expensive room since the standard rooms were sold out. So emailed a very helpful lady before we got there and she said that she will amalgamte both bookings so that we dont have check out after teh first 2 days and re check in, which was great and sensible.
When we got there at check in, there was a lot of confusion and once again we spent about 15 minutes going through the same thing again and me showing the copies of the email since the helpful lady was not working that day. They even upgraded us to the higher spec room for the whole stay.
After 2 days, my wife had a phone call from the front desk to stay why we havent checked out yet since it was well beyond the check out time. For the second time, she explained the situation on the phone AGAIN, but then she had to go downstairs for them to reswipe our credit card for the extra night stay although this was already done at check in. Not a disaster, but surely customer care could be a lot better since there seems to be no communication!!!!
The nespresso machine was excellent although we did have to ask for the coffee pods 2 or 3 times before they were replenished and this was replenished with the wrong type of pods- basic errors which could be sorted with some staff training.
Breakfast buffet was ok although no eggs for 3 days since the machine was broken according to the staff member I asked although they were serving eggs to other customers!!! oh well.
The rooms are modern with all the amenities and free wifi which was good.
Very easy walk to the bull ring and the railway station is not too far either.
Parking however is extortionate but I guess it is city centre parking.£42 for 3 days.
Overall if the staff issues are sorted and they can be sorted very easily, this could be a great place.

Room Tip: Higher floors since you get a nice view. The business rooms were quite big.

Stayed for two nights on business trip, good value and near to amenities. Room very clean, however very unpleasant smell from the sink drain which took 15mins of air con to get rid of. Mattresses were like marshmallows which may appeal to some but not great for a dodgy back. Poor offerings of tea & coffee, no herbal tea or hot chocolate and no biccies! The mini bar was empty. Biggest down side was NO CURTAINS - woke up with the early morning sun streaming through at dawn. No discounted parking at NCP so £24/24 hours (ouch). With a few tweaks could be a great place, but good value.

Very well located near to New Street station. However my room overlooked a roundabout with not only loads of streetlights but also an incredibly bright illuminated hoarding on it (one of those electronic ones whch flash different adverts) and the light shone over the top of the blinds, keeping me awake. There are no curtains as such, just a net and the blind, which didn't do the job properly (and bear in mind we are talking floor-to-ceiling windows, so lots of light does come in.) I would suggest requesting a room round the back of the hotel if you are as sensitive to light as I am. And I would suggest to the hotel management that they fit curtains in addition to the blinds, to assist in keeping the rooms dark.

Otherwise, a very nice room with all mod cons and a comfy bed. It was quiet and the bathroom was good, though the taps in the bath take some getting used to. Relaxing ambience in the rooms and corridors. I had a meal there which was delicious, though inevitably expensive. The welcome at reception was extremely good, too. All in all I would recommend it, but the issue with light would make me cautious about which rooms I get in the future.

We stayed at this hotel last night and were very impressed. It was very clean, quiet, comfortable, well equipped and the staff had excellent customer service skills. (Perhaps with the exception of the security staff who were a little hostile.) We stayed at the hotel next door last time, where we could hear lots of city noise, so we were particularly happy with the silence at Radisson Blu. Check in and check out was efficient and friendly. We will definitely return.

Room Tip: 14th floor was absolutely silent.
