“Good night out, great service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

We went on a Saturday night, never been to Birmingham before and it was very tricky to find the Glee Club. Its in Arcadia above a bar, if you look up you'll see the sign just go through the unhelpfully unmarked door to a bar and turn immediately left, trust me it's in there. We pre-ordered the drinks and all the staff were very friendly and professional and service was prompt. They close the doors at 7.45 but don't get going for ages after that presumably so you can drink all your pre-ordered drinks that you thought would see you through the whole night, and order more. Two intervals during the show and of the comedians we saw the Swedish guy Frederick was the only really funny one, he was totally hilarious and had the whole place in stitches. The food looked nice, burgers especially and was served hot and promptly. I have to say it's a good night out and the staff really set the scene for a good time.

Hi Orlaith,

Thanks for taking the time to post your feedback. We've taken a note of your points about it being a little difficult to find us and maybe it was something we'd not noticed before. We'll do something about it as soon as we can.

Great to hear you really enjoyed the atmosphere though, and that the service was good. The gap in between closing the doors and starting the show is 30 minutes and with a busy venue that time window allows everyone to finish eating in comfort, get settled in their seats and the staff to prepare the venue for the show. It all helps set the scene and allow everyone to enjoy the show in such a great environment - both the audience AND the comics.

We agree that the comic you mention is on fire! If you email duncan@glee.co.uk we can give you some more tips of similar comics you might like.

We hope we'll see you again, and perhaps you can try one of those burgers next time!

Everyone at Glee Club Birmingham.

“Not what we thought it would be......”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013

My wife and I went to The Glee Club last night (Friday 8th feb) hoping for a perfect fun filled experience.... Maybe it was because my wife's twin sister praised up The Glee Club so much from her visits 4/5 years ago (pre kids) that we were expecting an amazing time !!!!
Good points; staff friendly and helpful, clean and well looked after, view of stage very good, toilets good, beer/ wine very nice,

Bad points; SEATS and TABLES. They were like being back at infants school.... Small and uncomfortable, my back and legs were aching by the end of the acts, the tables are very small and wobbly some people behind us used the menu leaflet under one of there table legs.
Food; We ordered two Thai green chicken/rice curries (which were micro wave specials) and a basket of chunky chips (nice but no salt or vinegar supplied)

Acts; that can depend on what makes you laugh I thought they were ok the last act was very good, my wife loved the two lady comedians in the middle section (abit to sexist the other way for a change) LOL
So overal a good night spoilt by bad chairs and tables...

Hello Gary,

Thanks for taking the time to post the feedback about your visit.

It looks like we got pretty much most things right - we really like your list of good points! We've taken a note of the other points we and we'll make sure they get fed back to our management team.

It was, in our opinion, a great line-up of comics. Really varied, and something for everyone, which seems to be the case in your feedback. Comedy is really personal so if you would like a few more tips on acts you might enjoy just email duncan@glee.co.uk

Thanks again and we look forward to welcoming you back.

“Very entertaining”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

Went for New Year's eve to the smaller of the two venues, very compact about 180 people but good atmosphere. Compare very good but she was very rude. We left it too late and could not get in larger venue where the food was so had to eat before we got there, which spoilt the night a bit but our own fault. Pitchers of drinks available, which are a good idea saving you trying to get to the crowded bars. If you are in the small room don't queue outside go to the bar and wait as they let the large room in first then call you up. It saves waiting outside and you can get a drink.

“A comedy hotspot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2013 via mobile

We went for a saturday night out not really knowing what to expect, and were glad we went. We ordered some food on arrival (beating the queues) and were happy with the quality even if prices were a little expensive. The very English announcer on the PA was a highlight (funny in his own right) an we were lucky that we saw a lineup consisting of 4 good comedians. Only thing stopping me giving it a rating of 5 is the basic and slightly uncomfortable seating. Will definately be making this a regular place to visit

We're really glad you came too, especially if it was your first visit. The club runs just like that every Thursday, Friday and Saturday - you can see all our show listings at www.glee.co.uk/birmingham - and we can't wait to welcome you back.

“Fun night out, can be spoilt by drunken idiots”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2013

We have been to the glee club many times over the last 4 years. It has nearly always been a positive experience. The comedians are usually of good quality, and you get the odd face off the tv sometimes.

A specific bad experience that springs to mind was an evening where we sat on the back row in the main room. These are usually the best seats. On this occasion, there was a whole row of people who were clearly drunk (and still being served alcohol) in front of us. They were talking, shouting, and repeatedly getting out of their seats and being generally disruptive during the show. Security spoke to them on several occasions, but did nothing when the problems persisted. I spoke to the manager at the end of the show, who informed me that these people were 'guests of one of the comedians' and that it was 'more difficult to remove them'. I thought this was a poor excuse, but we were given a free return visit as recompense.

The main room is okay, but cramped. The tables are wobbly and sticky, and getting up to go to the bar or toilet can prove difficult, unless you are at the end of a row as every has to stand up. The seating in this room is randomly allocated. The studio room is 'first come, first served' seating and is un allocated. There are no tables in the studio room, and it is much smaller. Queues at the bar can be very long and frustrating in both rooms. Intervals can drag on for ages, and get boring.

On the whole, it is a very enjoyable evening. Just try to avoid the front row if you don't want to be picked on by the comedians!
