“Overbooking nightmare”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2011

Booked this hotel 6 weeks before stay, however on arriving was informed that an administrative error had been made and they did not have any rooms. Were informed that had been booked into a hotel further outside city centre but taxis would be paid for, which was the case. The hotel they booked into was shabby and much below the standard expected when made the booking. Admin errors do occur however the least that should be done is guests should be booked into a better hotel not a worst / cheaper one.

My apologises for the inconvenience you experienced.
Unfortunately these circumstances sometimes occur in the hotel business which are outwith our control.
However I have asked my Reception Manager to review our choice of hotels to outbook our guests to should the occasion arise in the future.
I sincerely hope that this rare occurence does not deter from staying with us in the future.
Yours sincerely

An overnight stay was all i needed as attending a training course in the City. Having visited last December was a bit dubious about returning but the hotel was booked by my employers. My experience was much better this visit, everything was very good other than maybe the breakfast, which even though plentiful and well cooked, could have been hotter!!!!! Room was very clean and compact.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room ask for one thats not at the front of the hotel, due to dual carriageway at...

Thanks for the generally complimentary review.
I have taken on board your comment on breakfast and we have taken steps to address the temperature issue by asking our breakfast chef to make less more often which will rectify the problem.
Your sincerely

Twin room small but on a par with other chains. Comfortable. TV channels very grainy. Parking available in NCP for 25% off (£15 per night instead of £20) or off-street outside the hotel for free from 18:00 to 08:00. Food very expensive - Burger and chips £20. Steak and chips £28. 1 beer £4. Walk 7 minutes down the road there are restaurants and weatherspoons with more atmosphere. Iron and board in cupboard (take note premier inn). Tea and coffee OK - includes biscuits. Bath and shower good. Car alarms going off outside so keep windows closed.

1st time staying here, based on 4* , price and location. Very helpful check in staff and the room was clean and modern.
The *only* snag was a fire alarm at about 0530hrs, caused by someone smoking in their (non smoking) room. They were evicted but we still had to endure a 40 minute roll call outside whilst the building was checked.
I would not hesitate to stay here again.

Room Tip: 5th or 6th floor facing the main road seem quieter.

Lovely looking hotel inside, good size rooms, comfortable bed, good choice of channels on the tv-within walking distance of town centre& several nice restaurants.
However, the fire alarm went off6times over the course of4hours when we decided it would be best to leave&go home to sleep. It started at4am going off 3times just a couple of rings and the4th time is went off constantly so we had to evacuate at5.30am.No apology was made,we just stood in the cold for15minutes, while the fire engine spent about3minutes checking things over&promptly left. The alarm then persisted to go off another two times until we got up@8am after the6th time to drive home. There was no offer of compensation or apology as they said it was a fault of the system. We said we didnt feel we should pay anything due to the hotel not providing the service we were paying for-sleep!! The best they
could offer was25% discount.

We had booked a stay for 2 for 2 nights at approximately 89 pounds. A taxi from the train station to the hotel was 5 pounds. There was no wi-fi included but there was a hair-dryer, toiletries, towels, TV, etc included. The hotel and room seemed suited for a business meetings and not for fun. The decor was terrible, the room looked dull, tired and dusty. We were upgraded to a suite however the sofas and furniture looked stained and dusty so I ended up putting towels on them before sitting. The place did look posh though, but in a very old traditional way. All other facilities were standard to good from the pressure of the shower, the slightly dim lighting and location.

Overall, I would not come here again unless it was company sponsored.

Hotel is in a fairly good location, only 15 minute walk to NIA/Broad Street/Bullring, however I wouldn't risk my chances walking round at night.
Website advises car park is approx £15 for 24 hours but it's actually £20! There didn't appear to be a car park on site, there is an NCP at the back with a connection corridor to the hotel.
Guy on reception was not friendly at all. (I think we interrupted the rugby match he was watching on tv when we tried to check out).
Decor is a little tired but the room was fairly clean. Would only go back if I had no other choice really.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel if you can, the front looks out onto a busy main road.
