“Fantastic service!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

We had chosen Holiday Inn as it was the nearest hotel to where we were going. The cost of the room was on a par with Travelodge around the corner, so I didn't have high expectations. But Holiday Inn Express were so so so much better than Travelodge and I feel ashamed I even thought about comparing them. From the moment I arrived I was treated like a VIP. I was offered an extended check out at no extra cost and all the staff at reception are very friendly and helpful. The room was spotless and included a long mirror (something else Travelodge doesn't do). We got four pillows on the bed, two firm and two soft for choice. Brilliant! Breakfast was included in the price and gave a good choice of options. In fact the only bad thing I can say about this hotel is the quality of the sausages could be better. Fantastic hotel and fantastic staff. I will be back!

Stayed here quite a bit about 5 or 6 years ago and been back a few times recently. Astonished by how little has changed; wonder if it has seen a paint pot in that time? Certainly feels a bit tired. Rooms are, although a bit faded, comfortable, quiet and I tend to sleep well, which is really important in any hotel. Getting Sky Sports is a bit surprising in a budget hotel as much more expensive ones tend not to have this. But the breakfast is *awful*. Don't go anywhere near the machine-spewed coffee, the fruit juice that seems to be watered down, the crunchy croissants or the rubbery scrambled egg. Stick to tea bags, corn flakes and a banana. Or, much better, ditch it, go to Philpotts on Gt Charles Street and get yourself a super bacon sarnie.

we stayed here for just 1 night. We were seeing Amy Macdonald perform at the Symphony Hall and decided to stay overnight here even though we only live 15 miles away.
We paid £41 for a double no smoking room and breakfast for the 2 of us.
The room was clean, warm and had the usual tea/coffee making facilities. Sky TV was available although we didnt have time to watch it. The receptionists on the front desk were very helpful and explained where to go for breakfast. Also that the bar was open til 2am if we felt like a drink when we got back....which we did! The round of drinks in Symphony Hall came to £11. The exact same round in the hotel came to £4.60!
Breakfast was cereal, toast, croissants, jam, fruit yogurt as well as sausages scrambled egg and beans with as much tea and coffee and fruit juice as you could drink.
We paid £12 to park the car for 24 hours in a secure underground car park which was accessible by lift in the hotel.
We had a lovely 24 hours here and would highly recommend the Holiday Inn Express to anyone.
If we have another night out in Birmingham and feel like staying the nihjt again we would have no hesitation staying here again.
Well done.

This was a quick trip with an evening arrival and a morning departure. I was welcomed efficiently with a friendly smile and quickly checked in.
The room is a standard Holiday Inn Express room.It was clean tidy and functional. I had a good nights sleep.
Breakfast was perhaps the most disappointing part. The young lady working in the area failed to make any eye contact or welcome anyone. It was really a work it or for yourself system. The food was fine and there was a free newspaper. The beans and egg could do with a little refreshing and I would have preferred Granary to brown bread.
A swift check out and I was gone. It works.

Perfect location for visiting St Paul's Square and the Jewellery Quarter this hotel offers good quality low cost accommodation. No 'extras' as expected, but what was available was clean, comfortable and in good working order. Breakfast was adequate and the staff very friendly. I'd happily return.

You won't be let down by the price off this hotel, Clean and has all the essentials. If anything it could do with a face lift but that's being picky breakfast was good and staff were friendly and helpful. Worth the money.

I stay here regularly when on business. Good pub on the corner and good restaurants within walking distance. Typical HIE, clean and tidy with polite attentive staff. Beware of parking outside on Lionel street, which is free between 18:00 and 08:00 but on each occasion I have stayed over the over zealous wardens are in the street at 8am and will ticket you if you are 1 minute late (welcome to Birmingham!).
Normally the cost of a room is reduced if you book early and this is a quiet corner ensuring a good sleep. If you want noise and clubs, Broad Street is a 5 minute walk.
