“Definitely be staying here again...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2014

Stopped here whilst we went to a concert at the LG Arena
Good check in from polite efficient staff on front desk.
Room was an ok size and the bed was very comfortable - we liked having the choice of hard or soft pillows.
Location was good for the LG - only about a 25 min walk away although there was no footpath - just a grass verge. Fine in the summer but I wouldn't want to walk it on a cold wet Winters day!
High praise as well for the staff working when we returned form the concert - was past 11 and quite a few people arrived at the bar to get drinks & food - handled very well by the two women behind the bar/front desk.
Breakfast in the morning was good - exactly what you'd expect from a holiday inn express.
We'll definitely be staying here again for our next concert at the LG :)

Dear Rob_and_Jane 10,

We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay. We hope you enjoyed your concert too! If you do come back in winter the front desk team are happy to book taxi's to the LG.
I will pass your comments to the nights team.
We hope you come back again soon.

You know what to expect in a holiday inn express and you get it here. But in the USA we definitely get a/c which you do not always get here. They did give us a fan which helped. The bathroom is so small that the door either shuts the toilet OR the washroom/shower. Maybe we got one of the smaller rooms?

Room Tip: Ask for a large room! With a/c if you need it if it is available...

Dear Tzipster

It's nice to hear from a loyal Holiday Inn Express user so thank you for your review. I am pleased to hear that on the whole you enjoyed your stay with us.
We unfortunately don't have air con in any of our rooms but we do offer fans to our guests during the warmer weather.
The door is a space saving design so that when families come to stay the bathroom can be still used. It is a quirky design feature!
We hope to see you again the next time you are in the UK

Fiona

Stayed here for the BBC Good food show at NEC. Good rooms, really helpful staff who were especially great on the front desk the evening of 14th June 2014. Best breakfast at a hotel of this type as they fully cook the sausages so well done

Stayed whilst visiting the BBC garden and food shows at the NEC. We parked our car at the hotel and had to pay £7 to do so. Whilst the hotel is not far from where the event was being held there is no defined walkway so you face either getting hopelessly lost in the maze that is the NEC or paying £5 each way for a taxi. So £17 was added to the cost of the stay.

Check in and out were painless and the reception. All the staff we encountered were friendly.

Our room and the public areas were clean.

The room was disappointing. The walls are paper thin and we could here doors banging, water running, voices, TVs etc. There is no aircon, so with it being a warm night it got really stuffy. As we were on the ground floor we dare not have the window open for safety reasons.

Neither of us got any sleep not only because of the stuffiness and the noise but also because the bed was very uncomfortable.

There were a lot of dark furnishings in the room and so it was dingy. We could only find one power point that you could use to charge phones, computers etc.

As for the bathroom, the water pressure in the shower was low and it hard work getting gel out of the dispenser without it running down the side of your hand.

We did not eat in the hotel in the evening as we were not taken with the menu. The breakfast was probably the worst hotel breakfast I've ever had. The 'branded breakfast' of cheap sausages, salty scrambled egg and beans was vile. The bread for the toast also looked like it came from the budget range. I would be surprised if the orange juice had been anywhere near an orange and the coffee was tasteless. The pastries are small. There was some fruit and yogurts available which we did not try.

Dear Enochollier,
I am sorry to hear that you found your recent stay with us disappointing and that you would not recommend us as a place to stay.
As an event location hotel we do charge for car parking as do all hotels in the area and the NEC themselves we are considerably cheaper than many of these in the area. We do have location maps of the NEC that we could have provided you with so that you would have been able to find the location you were looking for easier. I can appreciate that the NEC is a large site and finding the correct arena for your show can be a challenge.
We don’t have air conditioning in the rooms but all of our rooms are fitted with safety locks so can be opened a small amount if you were concerned for safety we also have fans available from reception. I am surprised about your comments regarding the beds as they are all new beds that are less than six months old.
We will look into your comments regarding the soap dispenser as if they are difficult to use we will look for other options.
I am sorry that the free breakfast was not satisfactory and will pass on your comments for when we source replacements.
It was nice to hear though that the hotel was clean and that you found the staff friendly.
We do hope this experience will not stop you using the brand in the future.
Regards
Fiona

Stayed here for 1 night on business.

The hotel despite being so close to the NEC, Motorways and the airport is surrounded by fields and trees and as you sit down in the great room and enjoy your breakfast you could be a million miles away from all the craziness which surrounds many hotels.

The room was spotless and the bed was fantastic, I had the best nights sleep in this hotel that I'd had in a long time, for which I am truly grateful.

Last but my no means least, the Duty Manager who was on (Colm) he was very friendly, chatty and extremely helpful with every question we had.

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone!

Arrived late but they were able to offer a pizza. Place was clean and the rooms nice. Kettle and hairdryer in the room. Was a nice change from the last time I stayed in a hotel from this chain which was like being in a refugee camp. Staff were friendly despite being very busy.

Short walk from nec, staff were welcoming, parking was easy although charged at £7 for 24 hours. Rooms were modern, spacious and included shower gel etc which is great for a budget hotel. Pleasant bar area off reception. Had everything I needed and I would happily stay again or recommend

Room Tip: Ask for one away from the lifts or you may be kept awake by the noise
