“NOT THE BEST, BUT GOOD FOR THE PRICE”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

Used this hotel during a visit to the Christmas Markets in Birmingham.

It's a bit run down, but we only needed a room for the night to rest our heads.

Our room was a bit small, but we were okay. It was clean and adequate for our needs.

We paid about £5.00 in a taxi to get us to the centre of Birmingham where the attractions were.

If you are after luxury then this is not the one for you, but if you want somewhere cheap and clean then this will fit the bill.

we where sent to this hotel by easyjet due to the weather in Birmingham
we knew as soon as we walked into the reception things werent good
upon arrival some guests that were sent on the coach from the airport.
Asked if they could have room service or drinks as they had to get up a 5.00 in the moring
for pick at 6.00. as breakfast didnt start till later on.
they said no.
one man at reception reported that he had no lighting in his room and his tv didnt work
he was told leave your bathroom door open that will give you some light as we have no spare bulbs.
It was a the worst hotel we have ever been in.
After looking at our room and the bed linen we looked up another hotel within walking distance.
we tired to phone but no reply.
we both decided to walk round to see if there was any rooms left ,there was what a weight of our minds.
my other half went back round to the dump and got our hand luggage.
we were so pleased with our other hotel, they felt so sorry for us at 12.00 at night
pulling hand luggage through the snow that they offered us free breakfast.
we had to go back to the dump as easyjet had put on a coach to take us back to the airport.
we complained to the day staff about everything that happened and the drunk people from parts of Europe etc standing around reception drinking their own drink.
and that some single woman were scared.
we then got talking to a couple who were students that was on our coach.
they showed us pictures of their bedding it was so bad they slept on the the floor
as they could not afford another hotel
we decided we all wanted to leave as we were on a later flight and werent getting picked up till
5.00 that evening we shared a taxi rather than stay there any longer
The young students handed the photos to officals in the airport and were going to hand them to the airline who sent us there.
our flight was delayed again we all decided we would sleep on the airport floor rather than go back to that place.
Thankfully we got away late last night
please dont think about staying here its more like a hostel.
we asked for a copy of our visit for insurance etc the cheeky lot were going to charge the airline for breakfast we never had

Room Tip: health officals need to visit this place

On arriving with my fellow colleagues and getting the keys to out rooms we found out 3 of the rooms were already occupied! 2 of us walked into suitcases on the beds and 1 walked in on a guy sitting on his bed (luckly he was dressed!) When we went down to reception they quickly changed our rooms but didn't offer much of an apology just as quick sorry and a blaming of the computer system. The evening meal was good with 3 courses and different buffet choices for each. The bar was a bit expensive but its what you expect from a hotel. Breakfast was all good, the Bacon was over cooked but apart from that can't complain.

You get what you pay for, and whilst fairly basic this is one of the better budget hotels we have visited (£38 to stay on NYE - you cant complain!)

Overall it was a noisy night but that was to be expected for NYE. I would also bring some plug extension leads if you are getting ready for a night out, there are built in hairdryers which are great but not enough plugs for more than one female getting ready (and my sis is and I were getting ready to go out) but hardly a huge problem just something to consider. Wifi signal is not great.

The 'free wifi' is non-existent. I could not once get a connection for any longer than 1min. The reception staff were unconcerned 'as they could get online ok'. The bathroom was filthy with mould and dampness in and around the shower. The cleaning staff shouting in the corridors first thing in the morning was not good. If they are up early, then that means that you'll be getting up early too. By that I mean before 7am....I would definitely NOT stay here again. It's not worth the £45 I paid. On the plus side, it is a good location for the university and Villa Park. But I would definitely NOT stay here again.

Stayed here one night on business, check in/out was efficient and mostly the staff were friendly and efficient (if a little overworked). Rooms are very basic but clean enough and have everything you would expect; flat screen tv, hairdryer, towels, tea and coffee and free wifi. I found the bed comfortable, bedding was spotlessly clean and white.

Food was of the standard I would expect from a budget chain hotel and was acceptable although there was an underlying odour of fried food in all the public areas.

Location is convenient with easy access from M6 junction 6 in a mostly business district.

Like many previous reviewers my wife and I stayed one night as part of a Groupon deal. I must say straight away that the reception staff could not have been more friendly and helpful, especially the young man (I think named Karol) who gave me a map and marked out optional routes to get to the Bullring. The let down for this budget hotel was the bedroom. I was wary, when walking down the corridor and realising that our room was beyond a dividing door, that the room was in the old smoking part of the hotel. My fears were confirmed when entering the room - the awful smell of stale smoke ingrained into every surface of the walls and fittings. I know it is some 5 years since the ban on smoking was introduced but clearly my room had not been redecorated since that time. There was the ominous yellow tinge to everything in the room. A seriously deep clean is necessary in these previous smoking rooms and then redecorated. As we were only staying one night we put up with the smell but had we stayed for longer then I would have insisted on being out into an original non-smoking room. Had I rated this hotel just on the room then it would struggle to have been given 1 star. It's saving grace were, as mentioned, the staff and also the restaurant was a pleasant surprise. Our evening meal was very good and the buffet style breakfast was good value. If you are a non-smoker and like me, very sensitive to the smell of stale smoke and nicotine stained walls, male sure you ask for a room that was previously a non-smoking room, ie one that is not in the final third of the corridor!
