“Enjoyable stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2009

Just a note to say how pleased and impressed I've been from my stay at the MacDonald Burlignton Hotel in Birmingham. The staff were all very polite, friendly and efficient, the room I stayed in was spacious and sparkling clean and so was the bathroom equipped with all modern facilities, too. The communal areas were again spacious and very comfortable to sit in, and admire the fantastic architecture surrounding you and all in all, i got the feeling I was in an actual palace not jut a well-designed top class hotel.

I will definitely stay in Burlington Hotel, whenever I happen to come to Birmingham and have recommended to almost everybody in my environment. It's a fascinating place, in a very convenient location of the City.

I've always born in mind that individual reviews are subjective and open to interpretation. With that in mind, the low rate offered coupled with many favourable reviews made me plump for this hotel last weekend. Brief synopsis: excellent service - very well trained staff and superb location. External facade very appealing. Initial impression - very good choice.

The only drawback was staying on a Bank Holiday weekend, during Pride and the hotel was totally full. I was allocated 326 and the room itself was below standard. Damp on the ceiling, crumbling plaster, dated furniture and decor, looked onto an air vent system at the bottom of a light well [littered with dead cigarette butts], the shower head was jammed with limescale and a bath panel fell off. Not what I was hoping for from an Exec room, and unfortunately the hotel was full and so, unable to be moved. It was a shame, which I reflected on the comments card upon leaving.

So, in conclusion, great location, solicitous staff and a poor room - recommend anyone refuses Rm 326.

We took my parents away for a weekend in Birmingham 15 - 17 May 09, we travelled by train and did not realise how close to the hotel was to the station. We arrived around 2 pm and the member of staff that greeted us was extremely friendly and arranged for my parents room to be close to ours. Unfortunately due to fact we wanted the two rooms close together it would take an hour for the rooms to be available, the receptionist immediately offered to store our luggage for us and also presented us with a token for a free drink for the four of us. After going for a walk around to get our bearings we returned to the hotel to find that our rooms were ready and we were also given an upgrade, the bed in the rooms were huge.
We ate out the first night, but the second night we decided to stay and eat in the hotel restaurant. The food and service was wonderful, my husband enjoys his steak rare and it was cooked to perfection. You could have a banquet for breakfast; there was plenty of chose of fruit, Danish pastries, cereals and cooked breakfast and plenty of toast and jams.
There was a large wedding on the Saturday night, I thought it would be very noisy we didn’t hear a thing.
The hotel was central for everything we needed; my parents are in there 70’s and found no trouble walking to the Sea Life Centre via the museum. The bullring, which was in the opposite direction, was massive; our Quadrant would fit into one of the main department stores.
I will definitely by returning to this hotel, but will stay longer next time.

Whilst retaining the character of the building the hotel offers beautful modern comfortaable bedrooms that have leapt into the 21st centruy. The immaculate refurbished rooms have superb lighting making it easy to work or read in the bedrooms. New street railway station links to the hotel making this a perfect hotel when visiting the NEC or Birmingham.

This is the second time we have stayed at the Burlington and although it was good the first time it was even better the second. It is ideally located near New Street, we had a large bedroom and bathroom. What makes the hotel worth a visit is the excellent service from the staff from checking in to the restaurant and housekeeping. They were all helpful especially Aiden in the restaurant. We can recommend the english breakfast, especially the black pudding-delicious.

Location is excellent. My husband and I were celebrating my birthday and 38th wedding anniversary. We were fortunate to be upgraded. Our room didn't have nicest view but it was very pleasant with a large, comfortable bed. Breakfast was very nice. We indulged in a full english, all of which was of high standard fare.

If you are looking for a hotel close to Birmingham's shopping centres and theatres, this is a good one.

This hotel is something of a gem. It's tucked away right in the centre of Birmingham, although you will feel a million miles away from the hustle & bustle of city life. The staff were wonderful and the service second to none. It was a rare treat to stay in such a well run, hotel full of old world charm and professionalism.
