I lived in Birmingham for years and had always thought this hotel to be a really luxury hotel. It didn't really live up to that expectation.
I was told upon arrival (at 11am) that check in wasn't until 2pm, but when I explained I had a wedding and needed to get ready they found me a room straight away. The front desk receptionist was very nice and welcoming.
The main disappointment with the hotel was that when I booked for 1 person I (perhaps naively) wasn't expecting a single bed. I booked with an online hotel site and wasn't warned. I thought that perhaps I missed the warning, but having looked on the Burlington's own website the picture of the single room on display does not resemble the room I stayed in and looks about 3 times the size! It also said they offer 3/4 beds. Mine was definitely a single! To be honest with a number of similar priced hotels in the area, if I had known it was going to have been a single bed I would have rethought and probably stayed elsewhere.
That aside, the room itself was clean if a little bit old fashioned. The bathroom was almost the same size as the room but was also clean and nice.
The location is the real saving grace of the hotel. Its right next to the station and within walking distance of everywhere within the city centre.
Overall, an ok stay. I wouldn't rush back. The hotel should also rethink its marketing and be upfront that a single room = single bed.
