Owner description: Welcome to St Martin in the Bull Ring. This is one of the most ancient and contemporary buildings in Birmingham. Most of this Grade II listed church is from the nineteenth century. It was built in 1873 and is an example of gothic Victorian architecture, designed by Alfred Chatwin, from Birmingham, who also worked on the houses of parliament. But St Martin's is much older than that. There has been a church on this site since 1290 and may well have been a simple place of worship here in Saxon times. St Martin's is also a place of worship for a thriving community who refurbished the building in 2000 making it more light and open. In 2009 we created a tea lounge, healing center, and learning and advice service so our hospitality in the heart of the city could be extended. We believe that what Jesus called 'Life in all its fullness' can be discovered right here in the crosscurrents of the marketplace. You are very welcome to come in and walk around.

“Lovely”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013

New and old side by side. Great respite from the bitter cold. Ornate wood carved ceiling structure, airy atmosphere not foreboding like some churches. Lovely coffee shop, soup was a lovely winter warmer. Don't just pass by, pop in.

“Peaceful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

A lovely, peaceful church with bags of character. Better even than the cathedral, and an oasis in the middle of the ugly shopping carbuncle of Birmingham city centre.

“A great church in the heart of old Birmingham”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013

The view of the church from New Street is so good. This area was redeveloped a few years ago and has the new Selfridges building. We were pleased to see St Martins still had a good place in the new set up.

“St Martin”

A lovely church in the middle of a bustling city centre. I've been there so many times and had attended even a Christmas mass. A must visit if you are in the Bull Ring.

“Tranquility”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2013

After a few hours in and around the markets and bull ring then a moments peace is just what the old legs need. I can not think of any one irrespective of religion who would not find the atmosphere so divine and a minute or ten sat looking at the fine stained glass windows well the stress of everyday life just flows away for a magical few moments.
