“A really interesting area to visit and a nice pub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2012

We took a canal boat trip around the area as well as walking around it. It was a fascinating blend of canals and boats, old buildings, refurbished buildings and some really interesting new buildings. The Tap and Spile has nice beer too Well worth a walk around the area.

“Old canal area, new bars & restaurants”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2012

Interesting area for a walk around - it links the Brindleyplace and Mailbox complexes, and shows how the industrial canal areas and buildings in Birmingham are being given a new lease of life in the entertainment sector.

Try the Canalside Cafe for a homely lunch or brunch, with several real ales served as well as good value food with several vegetarian options. This building is very old but was once used as a filming location for the long-running soap Crossroads.

Also backing onto the canal is the Tap & Spile pub, which can be a late-night haunt for those not clubbing on Broad Street above the canal.

At the Mailbox end there are more canalside bars and restaurants, and walking through to Brindleyplace takes you also to the ICC, NIA and Symphony Hall areas.

“More canals than Venice!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2012

The heart of the Birmingham canal network, and genuinely popular, not just touristy.

“Great place to stay for a night.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2012

We stayed here on a Canal boat and had 2 lovely evenings. There are plenty of bars and restaurant around the area. The new buildings have been nicely designed to complement the old giving a great place to stroll and people watch.

“Beautiful walk along the canals”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2012

It's a really scenic walk along the canals which offers quite a few interesting looks at Birmingham, its people and - of course - the house boats of which there are hundreds all over the city. This is a great walk to get to know Birmingham and get an idea of where to find what.
