Owner description: Fifteen acres of glorious landscaped gardens with over 7000 plants, shrubs and trees - and a new Butterfly House. Close to Birmingham city centre, this hidden tranquil setting also has four glasshouses taking the visitor from the hot steamy heat of the Tropical rainforest with its rich vegetation, through to the Sub-Tropical House with its stunning palms and tree ferns. The visitor moves through to the Mediterranean House, with its citrus plants and bright conservatory-type blooms - and finally to the stark contrast of the Arid House with desert climate and stunning cacti.

“A lovely afternoon”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2013

Arriving from the hagley road the gardens were clearly sign posted, parking was not a problem and free which was an added bonus. Admission fees were very reasonable for the size of the gardens and areas of interest at the site. There was a lovely big play park which is well maintained, my seven year old loved it. There was also an activity learning garden for kids and butterfly house and avery all of which balanced the afternoon out for a family with kids. The food and drink available in the cafe was a little pricey but non more so than other similar venues. Overall we all had a very enjoyable time exploring the many garden areas through winding paths and left with a few choice plants of our own from the gift shop.

“Well kept gardens but building needs updating”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

My family and I attended the teddy bears picnic yesterday and we had a great day. There was lots for the children to do and a lovely atmosphere. There were car park attendants on duty was is helpful with such a small car park , they were directing cars to spaces.

I used to visit here regularly years ago and think that some of the buildings need updating. For example the toilets as I could not find a lock on any door and the baby changing facilities are very limited. You have to walk back to the main entrance for the baby room.

I found the service in the cafe ok and the selection of cakes very good but there are only two high chairs for babies, which doesn't seem enough.

We have a family annual pass so we will continue to visit this year but don't think we will renew for next year unless there are some improvements.

“Lovely day out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

This is the 3rd time that we have visited the Botanical Gardens on their Teddy Bears Picnic family day and we thouroughly enjoyed it. It was very busy & parking was a real issue. We had to park qute a distance away on a side street, many of which had restictions of upto 1 hour so it took us approx 40 mins from arriving at the gardens to actually get through the door. We did not let this spoil our day.
The whole afternoon is very well organised, although i did feel for the staff in the tea room as there where some very noisy children in there, but I guess it is just once a year that this happens.
