“Beautiful and delectable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2013

The food served was beautifully presented, the service was okay... But we have visited on quieter times and the service has been better... The meal options are varied and overall this resturant is worth return visits.

“Overall Very Good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2013

Nothing to moan about here.
Food was up there with the best we have had.
Picked from pre 7.30 menu which was Popadums, Starter, Main, Rice or Naan. Very good value and meal was lovely.
Only concern was that it only had 1 star hygiene rating but nothing to back this up.
Service - Good and prompt.
Resturant - Impressed with decor.

“Unremarkable in every way”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013

I had been here a number of years ago and whilst I didn't remember anything specific, I don't remember it in a bad way either. Several groups of two and four and one large very noisy table with about a dozen. Service very prompt but really nothing memorable. Food ok, choice ok, bill ok. That's it. Ok.

“Pretty good but with some confusion”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013

We took advantage of a Living Social deal at the Celebrity restaurant on Broad Street as it is one of those places that we have often walked past over the years but never ventured in. The deal included 2 starters, 2 mains, 2 rice or naan, 2 popadoms and 2 glasses of wine/beer and so for £19.00 it seemed good value for money. However, we encountered a couple of problems with the arrangement - the first was when I tried to book a Saturday night several weeks in advance. This request was met with "sorry we're full on that night" but when challenged and after pointing out that the deal covered 7 days a week they finally relented and agreed to take the booking. It was commented that they don't like to take Saturday night bookings on these deals as they are often busy! The next problem arose when we tried to order fish starters. We were told that the deal didn't include fish dishes and that there would be a supplement payable. Again, this wasn't mentioned in the small print but the blame was fairly and squarely laid at Living Social's feet - they messed up the marketing by "forgetting" to mention that Saturdays and fish dishes were excluded. We'll never know who was to blame but now on to the venue and food review.

The entrance to the restaurant is on Broad Street and up a fairly dismal staircase into a dimly lit seated area with leather Chesterfield settees for perusing the menus. We were fairly quickly taken to our table for two which was on the edge of the restaurant closest to the toilet area. The dim lighting didn't give a feeling of warmth on this cold and snowy night and it seemed to us that the dark brown table cloths added considerably to the lack of ambience. White linen would make a tremendous difference and it would certainly look more classy. Orders were taken and apart from the "fish" issue, the waiter was friendly and efficient and in fairness to him, handled the problem pretty well - so much so that we found ourselves feeling a bit sorry for the restaurant and accepting that it was Living Social's fault!

Popadoms and inclusive drinks were delivered quickly and the tray of sauces was better than average. Starters were chicken and red pepper samosas and chicken shashlick. Both attractively presented and pretty decent. Our mains were North Indian Garlic chilli lamb and Chicken Tikka Achari which we shared together with a mushroom rice and garlic and coriander naan. We requested the mains to be madras hot as we both prefer our curries to be spicier than normal and we weren't disappointed. The lamb was very tender and there was plenty of it and the chicken tikka was nicely succulent with plenty of sauce.

We had one extra glass of wine and a large bottle of Cobra which came to just short of £10.00 which we considered to be reasonable. We left a tip based upon the original price of the meal and I daresay we might give the Celebrity another try if we are in town and looking for somewhere half decent to have a curry.

“Only liked the Nan bread.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2013

Poppadoms were nice and fresh. Accompaniments were ok although the onion salad was a bit strange. No cucumber or tomato and simply onion covered in a tomato sauce. This was followed by the starters that were well presented but the spices were far too heavy and this made my king prawns very salty. Our other starter of chicken tikka was also heavily spiced and did not seem to taste like it was cooked in a Tandoor . At this point I was guessing that the mains were not going to be good. My suspicions were confirmed when they arrived. The chicken Tawa did not taste at all like authentic indian food. I am no expert but I am fairly sure that the sauce was a mix of tomato, peppers, and half a tub of curry powder. Overall ...never again.
