“Always a great night out...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2013

We have been to this club a number of times, we have had a number of KGB deals and enjoy a burger and a pint, we add a bucket of chips each which costs an extra £2:50 but my goodness they are a bucket! You get a huge portion of chips that are always hot, fresh and so tasty. As a Vegetarian it is nice to have the option of a Veggie burger and it is always so tasty.
The staff are always kind, attentive and polite and always ready to help THANK YOU... my only grumble is that we have visited and ended up seeing the same comedian who also used the same material that we had heard a few weeks earlier, I thought this was a shame and a little odd as surely a comedian would keep his material fresh??? The other thing to note is that there is an awful amount of swearing which is sadly the norm now, I can cope with swearing, but when it is repetitive it becomes grating and is it just me or is the use of the C*** word taking things a little too far? Maybe it is just me but surely you can make people laugh without the constant use of the F word and the vulgar C*** word endlessly, otherwise a good night out...

“comedy night”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

we managed to get cheap tickets for the Highlight comedy club on Broad Street. The club itself is well laid out if a little crampted. The staff welcome you in and are generally very efficient. We had pre ordered food which was what you would expect in such a club. thought the buckets of chicken drumsticks looked good and the bucket of chips and onion rings were excellent, it was the main meals that were lacking. The place gets very full, lots of hen parties and the music is very loud with screens playing music vidios ( loudly!) There were 3 comedy acts and an MC so from that point of view it was very good value. That night the comedy was of a very good standard and the audience were funny too. To smoke you have to go onto Broad St which is very exciting on a Saturday night and that was a show in its self. While we enjoyed the comedy we found the music inbetween to be too loud but that could be our ages! While the food was plentyful it was not great so next time we would do the bucket food as that looked more attractive. Alcoholic drinks were reasonably priced for a city centre club. Toilets are clean and plentyful for the girls. The screens playing the music vidios then allowed you to see the stage when the acts were on though we had a good view anyway.

I've just visited the Highlight in Broad Street on 26/01/13. You can't miss the venue as it's well.. highlighted on a big sign but the entrance is small, just a doorway with a friendly doorman. We arrived at about a quarter to eight. We were met by staff members who checked our names off a list. A lovely chap showed us to our seats, pointing out the loos, safety exits and bar. We were sat to the left of the stage, thankfully not too near the front but we still had a good view without the dreaded fear of being targeted by the comics!

We didn't pre-order food or drinks as we had eaten at a nearby restaurant earlier in the evening. Several people sat around us had the pre-order service and used the waitress service and it seemed like they did a good job.

We went to the bar for our drinks and got a four pint pitcher of lager. There's a choice of Fosters or Kronenburg. Think we paid about £14 for it, which works out at a similar enough price to the pubs in the area. It was a decent pint to be fair, I've had far worse in pitchers. It stayed fresh. There's also a choice of Guinness, cocktails, wines etc. There was a bit of a wait at the bar so I can see why they prefer you to use the table service, we will next time.

A Welsh compare started things off. We really liked him, a very funny guy, probably better than the female comic. He interacted well with the crowd.

There were only three comics on, I was expecting four or five as this was advertised on the website so that was a shame but the acts themselves were decent. We laughed out loud at both of the male comedians, the female was a bit hit and miss. The final comedian was a Roger Monkhouse, he was the stand out of the night, pretty blue but very amusing so look out for him.

It was pretty packed in the venue but fortunately there were no hecklers or annoying folk! There's a break after the first two comics where you're prompted to get more drinks!

At the end the venue turns into a disco, this turn around is insanely fast! The tables are cleared away instantly but you can move to a different area with your drinks before taking to the dance floor. I think the disco is one of the dance floors in club Risa. Still, if this is your bag it's handy as it saves any entrance fee to anywhere else later on.

We left after the evenings main entertainment. We were lucky as we had a Groupon voucher so the whole thing only cost us a fiver. Total bargain, it's usually about £18 each. It was well worth the fiver and I would go back for sure if I could get a similar deal or a buy one get one free as I'm not convinced it's worth the full cost. A good night all in all.

“Good night out.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2013

I visited this club on Saturday the 12th January with my boyfriend, after reading some of the reviews I was a little unsure of how good it would be.

We arrived just after 7:30, after giving our details into the hostess we were shown to our table by the waitress who pointed out where the bar, toilets and fire escapes where. We had already eaten, so we only ordered drinks. Throughout the night i had two pitches of long island cocktails, after reading past reviews about the quality of cocktails i think its worth mentioning that the the pitches are around £12 for a 2 pint pitcher. You can expect to pay between £5 - £10 in some places in the UK for a good quality long island ice tea. The pitcher was OK, it didn't contain loads of alcohol, but for £12 i didn't expect it to. The show started a little later than i expected, but not much later. The compare was good and he introduced three acts in total. I think it was one before the interval and two after. During the first half there was heckling from a group of males and the back and a few females and the front. When we returned from the interval it was noted that the male group had been asked to leave, i thought this was good of the management. i only wish they had asked the females to leave then too although some of the females were later asked to leave. After the show we made our way downstairs the bar wasn't too packed at this point and we quickly got a drink.

For the price we paid for drinks i don't think i can fault what we received. the comedians we saw were funny and the staff were polite.
