“A fabulous day out for all ages”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

My family and i consist of my wife and I (aged late 30's ish!) and three children aged 7, 4 and 2. We visited the Sea Life centre after booking online and was a little apprehensive after reading some of the reviews on here but i can honestly now say i cant see what people are moaning about. If you are the sort of person that will moan about a place because you get wet walking to it, or rush around a place without taking the time to absorb it, or hate being near other people, you wont like this place. But, if like us, you are normal and accept that sometimes places will be busy you will have a great couple of hours here.

There are two queue areas leading up to the centre (though both were empty when we visited on a saturday morning in November) one being for pre-booked tickets online and one for pay on the day. As we paid online, we went straight through and were greeted by two very friendly young guys on the desk. The initial impact of the place blew the kids away with fish and coral reefs immediately visible when you get through the door for them to look at while we sorted out the guide book and stuff.

After a quick toilet stop (clean, light and airy) we got on with looking around. Immediately you are launched into an underwater world with jungle growing all around you. The sound effects and lighting all add to the experience. Walking along the walkways, the fish to the left and right are fabulous with sharks as big as the kids just a pane of glass away. Walking from display to display, you are truly taken on an journey through the aquatic underworld taking in sharks, rays, sea horse, turtles, barracudas and everything else in between - not to mention stroking starfish!

The 4D cinema was excellent through be prepared to have your younger children sitting on your lap as some of the effects are pretty hairy for toddlers.

The whole walk around took us about two hours - you could rush it if you didn't want to take everything in or extend it by reading everything and sitting watching some of the amazing fish and animals flopping around.

The last stop is (obviously) the gift shop which is well stocked with applicable souvenirs rather than any old tat. My only complaint is the lack of a restaurant though there are strategically placed vending machines on the walk around. This didn't really effect us that much though as a two minute walk through the waterways took us to a plethora of restaurants and cafes where we had lunch.

All in all, a great day out. Don't moan if you get wet queuing or if you have to wait because you didn't book online and certainly don't moan about the cost - those fishes love it in there and our money goes towards making this a super attraction!

“Entertaining and informative”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

Due to the bad weather during our short stay in Birmingham, we dropped into "National Sea Life Centre" and found it really enjoyable. I hate spending time in museums so it was a perfect alternative indoor attraction to them. Despite considering plenty of different fish/ sea animal species, we had an opportunity to watch a 3D movie with some effects and actually to spend a great time.
I believe people of different ages could find visiting this attraction interesting.
