“We really enjoyed our stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013

We booked a night here for no better reason than we'd enjoyed a night in the Novatel in St Malo last summer, and thought it would probably be OK. One of the good, or bad things, about chain hotels (depending on your view) is that they're usually consistent. This proved true down to the smallest detail, as we discovered with the room layout in Birmingham. If you suffer from sleepwalking, the Novatel is a safe place to be!

We had a superior room and we were delighted to find both a kettle and Nespresso machine. My son had been concerned that it might be a bit noisy, but our room fronted on to a quiet side street and I slept until 9.30am which (as my partner will testify is unprecedented).

Finding the Hotel was easy on sat-nav, although if you're driving East along Hagley Road, do remember to take the underpass which saves negotiating a horrendous roundabout. We had no trouble parking, and - to be honest - £14.00 is about average for 24 hours in any city centre; and this was secure parking right under the hotel.

Staff were friendly and helpful, and we had a couple of drinks in the bar after our evening out. Breakfast was extremely good and, since we'd paid extra for a late checkout, we were under no pressure and stayed until late afternoon.

The location, on Broad Street couldn't be more central. We really enjoyed our stay and will undoubtedly stay again.

Room Tip: From other reviews it seems the superior rooms are worth the extra.

We stayed here for a night. Hotel is in good location right on the door step for lots of bars and restaurants. Its a bit bad that you have to pay £14 a night for parking but ,maybe that's due to the location.
Reception staff took awhile to check us in as was only one member of staff and they were a little noisy wanting to know what brought us to Birmingham, which wasn't there business.

Room was nice, big+clean but no view but didn't really bother us. Slept really well bed was nice+big!
Breakfast is a must, lovely selection and all fresh and hot!
All round a good hotel!

So glad you had an enjoyable time in Birmingham, whilst staying at the Novotel! We very much appreciate the feedback and we hope to see you again soon. Please be assured that my team on the desk will only have been enquiring as to your stay, by way of making conversation during your check in, which I encourage. I apologise if you found this intrusive!
Kind regards, Richard Marsh, General Manager

Very nice rooms wifi, bar and all other luxury facilities. Bar staff exceptional as we wanted a rough guide of local restaurants, bars and attractions.

Parking was no problem and prices are reasonable too. Being in the middle of the City Centre, the hotel is located on the golden mile of Birmingham, we had no problems getting around and most importantly the service was great.

Positives - great central location; secure parking reasonably priced; lovely reception/bar area; good security; friendly staff
BUT the room we were in (222) second floor was on the side of the hotel where everyone who has been out goes to get cabs - shouting, screaming, beeping horns - from about 12:30am till around 4am so sleep was a luxury I didn't get. The sound proofing in the room was non- existent. Apart from that major issue, the room itself does not live up to 4 star standard with tired decor and stained carpets.
If I needed to stay in a birmingham central location again I'd find somewhere with double glazing.

Firstly I would like you for your comment and the positive and constructive way in which you have made your feelings known. I feel for any guest, when they say they had a disturbed night and would sympathise.
The Novotel Birmingham Centre is on Broad Street, a busy and very popular destination for night life. We are working with the local emergency services to reduce the siren noise and deal with external issues quickly. We have also reviewed our glazing/sound proofing.
We will always give priority to guests who wish to have room away from the front of the hotel, as rooms towards the rear of the hotel appear to suffer much less from this issue.
We can obvioously not legislate for those members of the public who are intent on making a disturbance outside of the hotel, however I can assure you this is infrequent and our night team are vigilant of such matters.
I hope that you will consider the Novotel for their next visit to Birmingham, whereupon we can display our commitment to a 'good nights sleep' for every guest! Thank you.
Kind regards, Richard Marsh, General Manager
