“A hidden gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2013

A really superb art collection in a fine building. Can be a little difficult to find from public transport, but worth any problems! The collection was clearly put together with real 'heart' - and not a little taste!

“A Wonderful Gallery.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2013

Having driven past this building many times... I had no idea it was there! Some of the signage around Birmingham University has been knocked and made it a little challenging to find. Nevertheless, it was well worth the adventure. I actually liked the architecture of the building.

The Institute has several galleries with a wide range of art work from some famous artist such as Monet and Degas. I was fascinated by the collection of coins and medals. At the time visited we saw the works of Thomas Fearnley. This is not an artist I was familiar with but there were some fantastic works show and he is certainly someone I would like to know more about.

There is a small shop with some nice items and a coffee machine and a range of sandwiches/snacks. We went on a Saturday and therefore parking was easy and free. There was no admission fee for the Institute but a suggested donation which was very modest.

“Great art gallery and building”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013

The art deco building is a delight in itself. Pictures and sculptures are displayed particularly well. It ts a great selection of art, but also a maneageable size. I found the exhibition about Dame Barber, the founder, particularly interesting. I go every time I visit Birmingham(2 or 3 times a year). The staff are particularly friendly and helpful.

“A hidden gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

This gallery is a hidden gem. It's a little out of the City Centre, so a short taxi or bus ride away. There are many fine pieces on display and they often have visiting exhibitions too. If you appreciate fine art this is an excellent choice for a short visit.

“Distinctive Art Deco gallery, a very fine collection.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012

This is a gallery which is well worth a visit. The collection is quite small but has excellent examples of famous artists. It is rarely very busy so good for quiet contemplation. The occasional special exhibitions are good and sometimes highlight gems in the collection which are not conspicuous.
