“This is a great place but a bit strange!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2013

I loved (past tense) this Museum and the artists on view are brill, largest pre Raphaelite collection out there! BUTttt....the atomosphere in 2012 and 13 is very weird and disturbing. I think it's because of the 'weird' and disturbing statue in the foyer which is HUGE, until they get rid of it I just won't go back there. You can guess who it's of. It ruins the ambiance and makes me think museum management have lost their marbles I am amazed no one has spoken out! Especially when I saw primary school children singing carols under the awful statue at Christmas, the world has gone mad or at least the management at the Gallery have! Anyone have the same thoughts? It was an good place but there is also an atmosphere there, I wouldn't bring children until management get rid of strange objects. Can't say more

“Revealed Government Art Collection”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013

On until 24th February, admission free and well worth a visit. Extraordinarily diverse. Who'd have thought that No. 10 has a collection of Harrison and Wood videos or that Mel Brimfield would be commssioned to make a Fluxus inspired Prepared Pianola for the olympics? And there's a chance to get up close to some famous works like the portrait of Byron in Albanian dress and Lowry's Lancashire Fair. It's a BIG exhibition so you may want to pop upstairs to the lovely tearoom halfway through.

“One of the best art galleries outside of London”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

Amazing Pre-Raphaelite collection and wonderful later c19th and c20th art too. The temporary exhibition on Government Art is well worth a significant diversion to go and see - it has one of my favourite EVER exhibition spaces within it (Richard of York) - and I go to a lot of exhibitions. Nice little shop and cafe too. Great.

“Something for everyone”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2013

There is so much history and art to explore in the permanent and special exhibitions that it is well worth spending at least a day here. Most of the exhibits are free and there is something for everyone. The Edwardian Tea Rooms are a bonus.

“Good section on Birmingham social history”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2013

There's plenty to see, so after the paintings in the first gallery we concentrated on the history of Birmingham as time was running short. An excellent presentation of the early to modern day history of the city. Plenty of interactive displays and well worth the visit. I'll definitely be going again to continue my tour.
