“Worth a visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

No entry fee, and not overcrowded, nice to have a leisurely wander around the exhibits without being rushed.

“Lovely cream tea in Edwardian Tea Room!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

I went to the Museum not for it's art but simply for enjoying a cream tea in it's beautiful Edwardian Tea Room. They offer a variety of hot and cold drinks, delightful cream tea, cakes, salads etc. And everything for very considerable prices. The entry to the museum is free.

“Pre Raphaelite Heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

Art gallery located in a beautiful old building and contains superb Pre Raphaelite artwork, some on temporary loan from the Tate. The only criticism was the height at which some of the paintings in the first round room were displayed. The history of Birmingham section was an excellent section.
The restaurant was large and airy.

“Interesting varied exhibits”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

really like the display on a the social history and development of birmingham.
Some of the paintings especially in the rotunda were difficult to appreciate especially as they were displayed so high up the walls.

“Other museums are better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

We were looking forward to visiting the museum and whilst I really enjoyed the pre-raphaelite paintings, I found quite a number of the paintings were a little lack-lustre. On the same weekend we visited an antiques fair at the NEC and the quality of the paintings and Daum and Galle glass at the fair were far better than those at the museum.

There was an interesting display of Birmingham through the ages which was educational for children and also enjoyable for adults.

One thing I found particularly interesting was the gold hoard that was recently found, the fine goldsmith work was absolutely fascinating and getting to see that close up was lovely.

All in all, not a bad day out but I have been to better museums.
