“Very disappointing service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2014 via mobile

The food at Akbars is pretty good and priced reasonably but the drinks are very expensive. My biggest complaint is the service. We wanted to go on a Saturday night and phoned to make a reservation for 4 people at 7.30. We were told they don't take reservations for fewer than 10 people but they keep back tables so there wouldn't be a problem. When we arrived it was obviously very busy and we asked at reception what the wait time was. The girl (whilst chewing gum) told us it would be at least an hour and a half. I'm glad they are busy but we were misled when trying to book and spoken to poorly when we arrived. The chefs at Akbars are being badly let down by the front of house staff. We certainly won't be going again.

“Good food, good restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2014

This is the first time I've been to Akbars and I really enjoyed it. The building is quite impressive, not like a traditional Indian Restaurant at all. It is large, modern, and reminded me a bit of something like Asha's. The service was good and so was the food. There are some very traditional dishes on the menu too, as well as the British Indian favorites. The price was very reasonable and overall, it was a good experience. I will certainly be back. It is ideal for large groups and families, but you might want something more intimate for a special meal with the husband/wife.

“Great food, Great place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2014

I've been here a few times..... If you haven't then you are missing out. A lovely building, great "authentic" food and very reasonable prices.
Very clean throughout, and friendly staff. Generally very busy each time I have been, but always managed to get a table within 5 minutes.

“Standard all over. ”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2014

Nice set up. Waiter service is very good. Food from starters to mains is just standard. Nothing special. Nothing so good to go back for. Have been many times and its because its nearby and convenient at the time. Serves alcohol which is good but food is just standard.

Overall 6/10

“Good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2014

This is a large restaurant. We visited midweek so was fairly empty, but can imaging on a busier night it would be bustling and noisy. Service was a bit slow, especially on drinks, but the food made up for this. Large portions of tasty food and presented nicely. I had a nice Lamb and ginger balti which was fresh and tasty with fresh ginger. The naan breads alone are to die for. Would certainly visit again when in area.
