“Basics done well”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 days ago NEW

Considering the price of this hotel (quite inexpensive), the location (5-10 min walk from city centre) and facilities (quite spacious, clean - serviced daily - with comfy bed, great shower plus bath) were excellent. Being Travelodge, you can't really expect much more than that, but if you're happy with all the basics done well, then it's perfect.

A slight moan: some of staff were excellent, but there weren't enough of them of that quality.

Room Tip: Try a room at the back of the building. Although the road in front of the building itsn't noisy...

The hotel overall was In a decent location not far from the clubs etc, and quiet enough to get some sleep. The beds were comfy and clean, bathroom could have been slightly cleaner. The breakfast set up was quite good value for the variety (Nutella packets were my fave with croissant) but the cooked breakfast was not the best and they didn't ask us what we wanted, just put everything on, meat on breakfast not of great quality, however staff were friendly and helpful

Stayed here for three nights during a business trip. Ideal for Birmingham stay if you want a quiet base for business or a short city trip. Not too expensive, with pavement parking and cafe. Functional. Room was stuffy due to heat, and fan provided

Staff friendly and good checkout time;

Noisy reception due to loud repair work going on; smelly damp room, which had to be changed; no TV remote in new room; no phone in room; no iron in room; no cupboard/shelf/Almirah in room; poor cross ventilation; poor breakfast.

All you need for one night's stay in Birmingham after a concert. Hotel is along the canal and pretty centrally located although down a side street so you may need your maps app. You can clearly see The NIA when you walk along the canal and it's only about a 5 minute walk.
Check in is from 3pm but if you pay £10 (you pay that per room, not per person) you can check in from noon which we did as we had standing concert tickets so we wanted to drop off our things at the room and go queue. You don't have to pay this in advance, we paid the £10 when we arrived at about 1pm.
The hotel is also close to the sea life centre if you're interested in going there. It's near The Mailbox which has some nice cafés and bars and I'd say it was about a 20-25 minute walk to Birmingham Coach Station. If I was coming to Birmingham for a night out or shopping trip I think I'd stay somewhere else as we couldn't see much nightlife around and the Bull Ring is about 15 minutes away to walk. However the area was safe and convenient for us so I would recommend it if you're in Birmingham to go to The NIA, Sea Life centre or for shopping/dining at The Mailbox.

Couldn't get in where we wanted to go so looked around for something near to our function. This seemed to fit the bill and appeared value for money. Started when we returned after our do to end up stuck in the lift for 15 minutes. (We were told 40 mins but we managed to get ourselves free. Then doors banging all night long, kids knocking on the doors on our floor half the night and the following morning when we left. Reception said 'Oh it was you' talking about who was stuck in the lift. No mention of 'are you ok' they said we should have told them about the door being knocked but as there is no phone in the room this meant I would have had to dress and walk down as I couldn't trust the lift. In fairness they have sent a voucher for the amount we spent but worried about going to another travelodge
