“Hidden Gem”

One of the oldest and best curry houses in Birmingham. The décor inside needs updating but the food is fantastic, so check it out!

“Best Meal we ever had”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2013

The Kohinoor Tandoori Restaurant is an excellent Indian Restaurant in the city of Birmingham. The staff and owner were greeting people warmly at the door. Mixed Tandoori Dish is not only for its variety of flavours but also because it is served on a impressive "sizzler" dish. The dishes are spicy but not fiery. The ingredients are fresh and fragrant. The chicken karahi deserves a mention, too — perfect with a pashwari naan. The huge range of main dishes caters for all tastes, although we almost always go for the slow-cooked and hugely tasty (but not that powerful) chicken Tikka Jalfrazi, one of the chef's specialities. But trust me, the only dubious thing about it is the decor; very traditional and natural. It's a proper curry house with flock wallpaper, naff sitar music and pictures of the Taj Mahal that light up. Certainly a lovely restaurant and the service was as good as you could ever expect. Location just lovely and seating was wonderful. We really enjoyed our meals. The staffs were very friendly and attentive.

“rancid”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2013 via mobile

Decor grim and needs serious attention. Staff, what there was of them, could not care less. Food cold, rancid and not worthy of human consumption. On a positive note, it`s very cheap. Overall an utterly miserable experience.

“Good food, questionable service, needs refurb”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2013

THe food is the reason I went, its great from all the city centre curry locations. Obviously you will get better in the balti triangle -area to the south-east of the city but for the city centre it is probably one of the best and consistent. Prices are great too

“top stuff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2013

Tried it because of the reviews and glad we did. was kind of empty when we arrived but this wasnt a problem. The staff were very welcoming and treated us very well, I got chatting with the manager who asked us how we heard about the place and then he gave me us a free cobra beer, great guy. as to the other comments you have gotta expect ghee other wise it wouldnt be traditional asian food. I had the bengal achari i think it was called, LOVELY DISH.
-near city centre
-nostalgic feel to the place
-serve drinks
-great value
-great food
-great staff/service.

never wrote a review before but the manager was really nice so i thought i'd do him a favour. enjoy your meals in this old school restaurant.
