Our second stay at Warwick Arms was the last week of September. We were greeted like old friends upon arrival. We were assigned the same room as our last stay in the back of the hotel. My partner, Bob, had a birthday coming up and we would have checked out the day before to go to Crewkerne, I had asked the staff if they could make a small cake for us to celebrate with them instead of at the next hotel where we knew no one. I could never have expected the cake that Dave Thomas created with a suggestion from Laura Scott!
I have to give a little background...on our first trip, we had asked what types of bourbon the bar had. We were presented with Jack Daniels which is commonly mistaken for bourbon but it is whiskey. We had a conversation on the difference between bourbon and whiskey. This trip, we went and got the bourbon and when the bar wasn't busy, we asked Farrah if we could take it to the bar and show them what we had told them about the differences. Everyone really enjoyed the presentation. Dave, the cook, had come out and asked if he could try a shot. He took the shot back to the kitchen ( they were cleaning up at this point and almost done for the night by the way). 2 days later, Dave asked me to come to the kitchen and give my opinion on something. He had made Bob a cake shaped as a Maker's Mark bottle! It was incredible!!! I was busting at the seems with joy!
Bob knew we were having dinner at the hotel restaurant but knew nothing of the cake. He was so suprised! No other cake will ever compare! The icing tasted like fudge and was thick! The cake wa soft and fresh. I will never be able to thank any of the staff enough for the wonderful suprise. They brought the cake out and sang Happy Birthday to Bob. He was genuinely suprised and that is not easy to do with his analytical mind always ticking!
We met Caroline, the owner I believe, that night. I went to go compliment her staff and she already knew who I was! The staff had been telling her about us. That was a really great feeling.
They also have a goat cheese and bread crumb topped mushroom. Ryan Harrison cooked one for us during our stay and it was by far the best I have ever eaten!
It appears that we will be returning to Warwick in January and I already know where we are staying and I can't wait to see Emma, Laura, Farrah, Shannon, Ryan, Dave, Shannon and everyone else!
