We've just returned from our 10th wedding anniversary weekend away to Walton Hall and a colleague at work recommended this pub to us. And she was spot on! We also visited the 2 woeful pubs in nearby Wellesbourne. The Boars Head is just so delightful.
We'd booked a table for dinner. Good job we did! We were greeted warmly at the bar with our name used by the barman before we'd barely opened our mouths. Impressive!
As a real ale lover I was in heaven. 6 cask ales on tap and I asked for some help in trying a 'sweeter' ale and again the barman came up trumps. His recommendation to me was Cosmic Beer...delightful! There's such a terrific ambience in this pub. Warm, welcoming, friendly, noisy but not in a bad way at all.
We both had the Steak & Ale pie and it was divine. So much to eat, piping hot and tasty. The menu is somewhat basic and its pub grub really as opposed to fine dining but that's not a criticism at all. That's the pubs customer proposition as a free house and it really does work a treat, Would we return? Most definitely! Thank you The Boars Head...the best pub we visited by miles on our trip away.
