“It's a special place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2008

Our one night stay at Fulready Manor wasn't long enough! We thoroughly enjoyed the immaculate home with it's unique and beautiful interior decoration. The owners were gracious and lovely, and we had a wonderful breakfast at a time of our choosing. The location was close enough to Stratford-Upon-Avon to allow us to easily get there for dinner and the theatre, but far enough away for us to appreciate the quiet rural setting. We look forward to returning.

I would recommend Fulready Manor to any couple who wants to get away for the weekend. I wanted to treat my boyfriend to a weekend break in Warwickshire. The plan was to spend a day in Stratford upon Avon and a day at Warwick Castle. I found the website for Fulready Manor which seemed ideal not only because it was a quick 15 minute drive away from both Stratford and the Castle but also because it looked visually stunning and was situated in the middle of the countryside.
Driving up to the Manor, was like arriving at your own private castle, when we got out of the car, all you could hear was pure silence and all you could see for miles was countryside and the lakes which the Manor resides next to.
We felt so welcomed when we arrived, Mauveen came out to welcome us and gave us our room key. She showed us around the Manor and asked us if we wanted a cup of tea and coffee or a beer or glass of wine, which was most welcome after our drive.
It took them 10 years to build the Manor from scratch and just from looking around you can see it is an absolute labour of love!
We stayed in the Tower Room which was beautiful, breathtaking views, decorated as if for royalty and the bed was so comfortable.
We went out to eat at a country pub called the Howard Arms at Ilmington, which we would recommend to anybody. It was in a beautiful quiet little village, the staff were so welcoming, food was delicious and there was a lovely open fireplace. The perfect relaxing little country pub.
When we arrived home at the Manor, we had a note on the bottom of the staircase from Mauveen saying that they hoped that we had a pleasant evening and that they had left us a night cap in the drawing room. In the drawing room they had left out a bottle of Baileys and a bottle of Port with a selection of Belgian chocolates. The perfect end to the evening.
Breakfast the following morning was delicious, we had 3 courses and it was all home made by Mauveen, really set us up for the day.
Each day our room had fresh flowers, fresh fruit and mineral water by our bed.
Overall, the stay was pure magic, if you want somewhere where you can feel away from it all, feel welcomed and somewhere that feels personal rather than a chain hotel etc, then this is the place to come.
We will certainly be back and have already recommended it to all of our couple friends and our parents. Simply beautiful! Enjoy!

Lovely house, super location, but hospitality is rather hit or miss. No kettle etc in room and tea and coffee is only available when hosts are around. We returned to Fulready from the theatre on night one, no one around. On second night we returned after a meal to find hosts had gone out for the evening. We sat in the unheated lounge, listening to their very young puppy howling for almost two hours....no television, which we knew, but also no radio, no board games, very few books.
Toiletries in the bathroom are very basic, no heating here, not even towel rail.
We enjoyed our breakfast on day one, but were surprised not to be given a choice.. what you get is what you are given.
We felt that we got a very poor deal, way overpriced. We certainly would not return

Having stayed at many B&Bs across the UK, we have to say that Fulready Manor is the best we've experienced. The quality of the food and accommodations are better than many top-grade hotels, and Michael and Mauveen are the perfect hosts: friendly and helpful yet very respectful of your privacy.

Their beautiful home combines modern conveniences with all the elegance of a period manor house in a countryside setting. The house is surrounded by lovely gardens and a 3- acre lake, as well as by the Spencer's own farmland. At night the only sound that disturbed the silence was the call of a tawny owl.

The gorgeous rooms (designed by the Spencer's daughter, an interior designer) are all different. We stayed in the luxurious Roman Room, which had a wonderful view of fields with cows grazing in the distance. Mauveen's attention to detail is one of the things that makes Fulready Manor so special: our room had a lovely fruit bowl (with plums and apples from their orchard), a vase of fresh roses from the garden, bottles of mineral water next to the bed and very nice toiletries in the bathroom.

On arrival, we were greeted with homemade scones and greengage jam, and each morning the breakfast was exceptional (eggs from their own hens, grilled tomatoes from their garden). Also, Michael leaves a drinks tray in the drawing room for guests to enjoy after dinner.

We found the location very convenient - close enough to Chipping Camden to enjoy the fine dining there, but far enough away to avoid the crowds. A booklet in the room recommends a number of places to eat within 20 minutes' drive, several of which have won Pub of the Year or other food awards. We would certainly recommend Fulready Manor to anyone visiting the northern part of the Cotswolds or Stratford-upon-Avon, and look forward to returning next time we are in that part of the country.

Stayed in the Edwardian Room last weekend and was most impressed. Mike & Mauveen are fab, effortless hosts with a great house and great hospitality. Lovely setting out of town - blink and you'd miss the turning but worth getting lost a few times.

We stayed at Fulready Manor for a two day visit to Stratford-upon-Avon. It is located about 7 miles from the town so is ideal for a visit to the theatre and the surrounding area. The property is superb. It looks like an ancient manor house but is modern and took 10 years to build. We stayed in the tower room which had a very comfortable large sleigh bed (other rooms have four posters) and a sitting area in the small tower. The decorations and furnishings are beautiful and carefully chosen. Michael and Mauveen are wonderful hosts and provide everything you could need. On arrival we had afternoon tea with home made scones, home made rhubarb and ginger jam and cream, in the drawing room. Our breakfast, taken whenever we wanted it, included freshly squeezed orange juice, home made muesli, honey and yoghurt with strawberries and raspberries, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, home made bread and criossants. Mauveen does cook dinner sometimes but she recommended two excellent dining pubs within a few minutes drive. The couple are also very helpful and knowledgable about the local area and will arange taxis if you wish. We will definitely be back.
