“Lovely stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2013

Spent a couple of nights at this well-placed traditional B&B, (5 minutes from the station, 10 minutes walk to Anne Hathaway's cottage and about 25 minutes walk into town), with ample parking (unusual for other B&Bs in the area). The owners were kind enough to let us leave our car on their premises even after we had checked out, which saved the agony (and cost!) of parking in Stratford.

Our room was spotlessly clean and the bed comfortable, and although on the front of the house (Room 1), we were not disturbed by any traffic noise. There was a good range of drinks provided on the hospitality tray, along with biscuits; these were replenished daily, as were the towels. I would agree that the ensuite was small compared to some hotels we have stayed in, but it was perfectly adequate for our needs and we were provided with a selection of quality toiletries.

Breakfast was a treat: a range of cereals to help yourself to, followed by juice, fruit (the spiced compote was delicious!), toast and a very tasty (and plentiful) English cooked breakfast (locally sourced where possible). Any special requests were accommodated with a smile - nothing was too much trouble.

Our hosts, Barbara and Giovanni, were welcoming and helpful, giving advice on where to eat (and where to avoid!) and the best routes to various places. They even gave us a bottle of bubbly to celebrate our anniversary (the reason we were in Stratford). Thank you so much for a lovely break. We'll be back!

Tip: visit the information centre first to buy discounted tickets for 7 popular attractions in the Stratford area, including the Shakespeare properties, Bancroft Cruises, Warwick Castle and the Stratford Town Walk (which itself has vouchers for 10% discounts for a number of local tourist attractions!)

Barbara and Giovanni were as hospitable and welcoming as one could wish for. These are family-oriented, thoughtful, kind people. Giovanni's coffee is very hard to beat, and I have never had a better breakfast in a B&B. The rooms are kept very clean and are spacious and comfortable.Thank you for a lovely stay.

Friendly welcome, very accommodating of our 2 young children at breakfast. We just stayed for one night, in a suite of 2 rooms, which meant we had plenty of space for all of us. The rooms were very smart, clean and comfortable. We parked at the accommodation and walked into town (20-30 minutes). Highly recommended.

We stayed here overnight for a local wedding. Our hosts were very helpful, letting us use our rooms early to get ready. It was very clean accomodation ,with a comfy bed.
Between the 5 of us, we are a culinary challenge. One gluten free, a vegan and 3 vegetarians.
Giovanni had bought some GF Cornflakes and vegi sausages which was very kind. The breakfast was a real treat.
It was a short walk to Anne Hathaways cottage about 15 mins, passing some ancient cottages. I would advise get there early, as it gets really busy with tourists. You can buy a years ticket, to visit all the properties associated with Shakespere. Which we did.
We would definately stay at Brook Lodge Guest House again and hope to do so in the near future.

Room Tip: Family room is spacious , with a double and a single bed. Then an ajoining room with a single bed.

Just a short walk from the train station, Brook Lodge was a really convenient place to stay. The rooms are quite spacious and clean (and the bed was really comfy!!). The breakfast was also really nice and generous (even for veggies) and the owners were both really helpful and really friendly. I would definitely recommend and definitely stay there again if I was in Stratford.

This B&B is almost at the edge of the action in the main part of town. It is possible to park in the compound and then walk the 1 mile into the town centre, but that can be quite a walk.

In general, the rooms are small and the bathroom even smaller. Imagine the shower stall on the left, the sink in front of you, the wc pointed to your right. Now imagine the space created by putting them all together is so small that there is room only for the towel. You have to put slippers outside the sliding door so you can step on to a clean towel.

Otherwise, the room has everything one would need. The TV (with a build-in DVD) is hung on the wall. My room was so small Giovanni offered another room to store my luggage.

Having said that, breakfast was good. Because you can tell them what you want, you can tailor your breakfast. Ask for the hardboil eggs. They are served with a holder and then some kind of cloth cap shaped like a rooster head.

All in all, the B&B is clean and the owner is helpful. If you are driving and staying short-term, this B&B works.

Thank you for taking the time to review our property. Most of the foreign visitors need a reminder that B&Bs are private homes that share their space with their guests and therefore they cannot provide space and services usually offered by hotels. We make up with things that usually the hotels struggle to provide: personal service 24 hrs. a day, cleanliness, room rates (usually 50% or more cheaper), free Wi-Fi, free and ample parking and much more. While we accept that a couple of our rooms are small (but as you said very suitable for short stays) we would have welcomed also a small appreciation for the other three rooms allocated to your party (including the newly refurbished triple room with a hotel size bathroom).
