“great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2008

Great location for sightseeing in Stratford; a short walk to theatre, resaturants, and Shakespeare's birthplace. Catch the hop-on hop-off bus there. Family room with two doubles plus bunk beds and two baths. Breakfast cooked to order and delicious. Hosts so helpful with directions and suggestions. Private garage about a block away, but short-term parking available at the fornt door for unloading the car. Definitely would stay here again.

My 18year old daughter and I just visited Stratford upon Avon for the first time. She had just sprained her ankle pretty badly the day we left California, and was on crutches, but when we arrived at the Emsley Guest House, we were treated SO kindly and friendly I couldn't be happier. Keith grabbed our stuff out of our car, and Val hustled us off the the theatre so we wouldn't be late. Keith got us a cab and a cab back. The room was tidy and clean and we had a jacuzzi tub even. (that's rare in b&b's!) Next time I go to Stratford-upon-Avon, I will call them - I didn't want to leave, it was sooo nice. The hospitality, the food, the quarters, the kindliness, all of it... Val and Keith just went way beyond duty to make our stay most pleasant.

We stayed two nights at the Emsley. Keith and Val could not be better hosts. Upon arrival they gave us a very complete overview of the town with several excellent recommendations. The Suffolk room is one of the largest with a double bed, a twin bed and two bunk beds. There were only 2 of us, so we didn't need all the room but it was the only room available. There is a toilet and shower connected and another toilet and bath just outside the room that is designated for this room only. The room was very clean and completely adequate, although the shower pressure was very low.

The breakfast was great. Complete English breakfast plus juices, cereals, yogurt, and fruit.

The location is very convenient to the train station (5 min walk) and very convenient to downtown Stratford Upon Avon.

We highly recommend the Emsley and would stay again.

Found The Emsley on the Stratford upon Avon tourism site and booked directly. Main appeal was the large rooms as we were a group of 3. We stayed in the Warwick room that had 1 double bed and 2 singles with plenty of space around them. Decent bathroom with bath and shower.
Very warm welcome, garages are a 2 min walk away but no problem and Keith (owner) parked it for me and got it out when we left.

The breakfast was delicious and we were made very welcome.
The B&B does face a main road so there is some traffic noise if you are at the front but to be honest if you want to be close to the town you will have this anywhere. And this really was a great location, very short walk to shops and centre. Ask Keith to recommend somewhere for lunch (I think it was The Elm?) but great charcuterie and cheese boards. We ate at Vinters and The Malbec - again would recommend, especially The Malbec for a really special meal.

Overall a fantastic place to stay, thanks!

If you’re wondering whether all these rave reviews are too good to be true – relax! This really is a B&B which gets everything right – from the warm welcome on arrival to the very reasonable bill on departure. The York Room is cosy rather than spacious, but has everything you could wish for – TV, clock radio, hair drier, tea/coffee-making facilities, ample wardrobe and drawer space, a good shower and comfortable bed. Everything is immaculate and furnished to a high standard. Towels are changed daily. The breakfasts (which you pre-order the day before – a great time-saving idea) are excellent and copious, using fresh local ingredients. The location is near-perfect and the facility of free garage parking is a real bonus. A place like this makes you wonder why anyone would wish to stay in one of the large, impersonal hotels in Stratford – at several times the price!

We stayed at the Emsley Guest House for one night back in September of 2006, although we wished we had stayed longer! The owners (Keith & Val) are very friendly, kind, and helpful. After assisting my husband park our rental car, they sat us down in the lounge to give us an overview of Stratford, and recommendations for restaurants. We stayed in the York room, which was extremely clean. We were very glad to see a shower in the bathroom, as some of our other accommodations in England had bathtubs instead. The breakfast, though, was the most enjoyable part of our experience at the Emsley! It was delicious and the best breakfast we had throughout our 2 week stay in England and Wales. The location of the B&B is great-you are within walking distance to all the major sites. As you can see from other reviews, this place comes highly recommended!

The location is very convenient and the hosts help with parking – they provided us with our own garage just round the corner. The room was typical B&B style, no better no worse, but clean and a decent size.
The hosts were great, really making us feel welcome. They gave us ideas of where to go and provided us with a map. They recommended the Malbec restaurant where the food was fantastic and just a short walk from the hotel.
The breakfast was spot on but I wish more places would allow you to have breakfast later than 9am, especially at the weekend!
On our way out when they heard we were off to Warwick Castle they gave us a discount voucher, saving us £18 – thank you!
Great location, OK accommodation, good breakfast and really good hosts.
