For an overnight stay to visit the RSC this hotel is ideally placed, just opposite the Swan Theatre and with some views of the river from the restaurant. Parking was easy in a very pleasantly laid out car park. We enjoyed a relaxing stay in a very well equipped room with Panasonic TV and DVD and safe as well as a fridge with REAL milk and mineral water. The bed was large and comfortable. The only problem was with a slow-to-drain washbasin (which was promptly dealt with by reception) in the spacious bathroom with separate shower and bath.
On entering the restaurant there was no one to welcome us so I approached the head waiter who seemed very preoccupied as he poured over his paperwork. Although with little grace, he did offer us a choice of tables, The pre-theatre meal booked for 5.45 on the hotel's recommendation was a disappointment with a wait of nearly 45 minutes for the main course, (we passed on the starter). The choices on both table d'hote and a la carte were limited and when our choice arrived it was not the fresh, moist cod that we hoped for. The accompanying peas were hard and the fondant potato equally so. There was a long wait for our desert order to be taken - to be enjoyed after the play) so I had to give it to the waiter on our exit. He had greatly cheered up when we returned after the show!
At breakfast the buffet choice was of a very high standard but again the service was slow, though cheerful. The cooked breakfast was another disappointment with fatty through cut bacon and a mean portion of rather poor black pudding.
We would stay again but would not take dinner and would just have the plain breakfast.
