“Convenient for the castle”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2011

Stayed here for 1 night - great location just across the road from the Castle and with a couple of decent pubs within walking distance up the road. Breakfast was good and I liked the little fridge with bottled water and fresh milk available (makes a very nice change from the usual UHT). However I didn't feel it was value for money: our room was very small but more importantly come early morning we found it to be very noisy with traffic (hadn't noticed the night before as we arrived quite late). I don't know how busy they were but there didn't seem to be many cars in the car park or people around at breakfast so it seems odd they would put us in a noisy room if they had other rooms available. Luckily we only stayed 1 night, if we'd been staying for longer I would definitely have requested to move rooms.

Room Tip: Make sure your room doesn't overlook the main road at the front

We stayed here as part of a weekend away, the b&b is in a great location for exploring kenilworth or warwick castle. The room we had was very small but it had a nice comfy bed and the moveable tv was very good, The bathroom was tiny and although I know this is just the size of the room i did feel that this let the room down, we paid £69 and i think compared to other b&b's we have stayed in this seems a bit high for the room we got.The fresh fruit and range of drinks in the room was good and the availabilty of fresh milk and bottled water was usefull. The breakfast was good and cooked to order , there were also a range of fruit juices and cereals although both of us felt that the orange juice wasnt the best quality.I would recomend this b&b if you are looking for a base to explore the area

This was our second visit to the Castle Laurels, having stayed there in 2010. We chose the guest house because three of our party were taking part in the Two Castles Run which finished in the grounds of the castle opposite. This made it very convenient for the older members of our group and for those taking part. The previous year, the staff could not be more helpful, providing a light early breakfast for the runners and allowing us to keep one of the four rooms we booked to shower and change after the race. We did not hesitate to book again for this year's race.

However there was a complete change in the attitude of the owner. We did not feel welcomed at all. When we asked about using one of the rooms again for showering and changing, this was met with an adamant refusal. This was a shame because we all felt that the guest house had been improved from last year with fresh decor and nice touches like milk and water being available on the landings. Those of us that were taking part in the race again did not require the cooked breakfast. However unlike last year, no one was around at breakfast to see if we were ok or to offer toast. I accept that it was our choice to eat before the scheduled 8am but last year the owner brought us tea and toast and wished us good luck.

We read in the information pack in the room that checkout was 10am but if you needed a later check out to ask, and they would endeavour to accommodate you. Unfortunately on the morning of the race, it was pouring with rain. My wife asked again if we could have the use of one of the rooms, even the single room, to shower and change because of the inclement weather. This was met with an even more stonewall refusal. We would have only required this for around an extra 30 or 40 minutes. My wife commented later that the only time she saw the owner smile was when she settled the bill. We felt we had no choice after the race but to drive home in wet clothes, a 2 hour journey, instead of staying in the area for lunch and maybe some sightseeing.

The guest house overall was clean and well appointed. It provided free internet access and extras like a supply of mints and newspapers in the lounge. However for me the most important thing is feeling welcome which was sadly lacking. I can forgive other shortcomings but not that. For anyone one thinking of staying there and taking part in the Two Castles Run, I would not recommend it. Next year it will be the Holiday Inn with its 11am checkout. Shame after the effort to improve the place,

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the first floor at the rear.

Stayed for one night to attend a Prodrive track day to drive supercars, just a few miles away.On arrival hosts were welcoming and very helpful, giving us a map and directions to the racetrack, and also ideas where to eat and drink in the evening.Looks like there is a good selection on the nearby main street in Kenilworth.Clean and comfortable rooms, with a freshly cooked breakfast.Off road car parking is available to the side of the property as well.Good value, well done to the owners,Trudi and Ken.

Room Tip: Excellent location for the Prodrive test track

We attended an exhibition show in NEC and stayed at Castle Laurels guest house, it was extremely nice stay and so convenient to everywhere!! We visited the Warwick Castle and Kenilworth Castle after attending the show and decided to extend our stay for one more night to visit William Shakespeare's birth place in Stratford-upon-Avon.
The hotel itself has unique characters with lots of original features, antiques and painting in the lounge room and reception.
The breakfasts were out-of this world, keep my colleagues and me going for the whole day. the staff also extremely friendly, gave us lots information for our trip.

My partner and I stayed at the Castle Laurels Guest house for one night while we attended a track day at the Prodrive test circuit.
After a long day of driving (we came up from Kent) and standing around at the circuit followed by some sightseeing at nearby Stratford-upon-Avon, it was lovely to be able to relax at the hotel.

Arrival & Facilities:
We were warmly greeted when we arrived, and shown to our room where we had complimentary tea and coffee making facilities available, along with a fresh fruit basket. The hotel is next to a fairly busy road, but our room had excellent double glazing and it completely cut out the noise from the street, which was quiet at night anyway. The hotel had free wireless broadband which was fast, and if you didn't have smartphone or a laptop handy there was a computer available in the lounge for guest use.
The room itself wasn't huge, but big enough for two. The bed was comfy, and Freeview was available on the television. There was space for storing clothes in the wardrobe, which also contained spare pillows, blankets and a fold-away chair and table if you needed space to work.
The bathroom was modern and clean - there was some evidence of a bit of damp on the wallpaper at the top of the bathroom window, although it was old and didn't smell or put me off at all. There were complimentary toiletries also avaialable.

Dining:
In the morning, we went down to the dining room and had a lovely breakfast prepared freshly for us with local produce. There was an extensive choice between cooked meals (full English, poached eggs on toast, bacon/sausage/egg sandwiches etc), along with there being cereal and fruit and yoghurt options available too. The hotel did offer dinner and snacks, although we didn't take up this option as we went out for our evening meal.

Local area:
The hotel is only a 5 minute walk away from the town of Kenilworth, which is full of a number of lovely pubs and restaurants (we went to the "Almanac" - a little pricey but lovely food, surroundings and cocktails). It is also just around the corner from Kenilworth Castle, making it ideal for sightseeing. The hotel offers free parking to its guests, so you can explore further afield if you like: Stratford-upon-Avon is a lovely town that is only 14 miles away, and it's feasible to get to Leamington Spa, Warwick and Coventry too.

Overall:
We had a lovely stay, and have reccommended friends to stay here too! Don't be put off by negative reviews, we had no such problems at all! The staff were lovely, the food was excellent quality, and we had a thouroughly relaxing stay.

OK, look, the location is right in the centre of Kenilworth and is great, the main part of the house is a really nice victorian building. Most of the bedrooms are in an extension on the side.
The people are really friendly, and the breakfast is good, freshly cooked for you.
I booked a single room and whilst it was clean it was very small, too small to have a table and chair to work from which is not good for me.
I did see the steep stairs people mention in the reviews for the rooms higher up in the house, I have to say I think they are being a bit fussy, it's fine (unless you are a 50 stone tourist from Idaho!)
Would I recommend it?, tough one. Nothing wrong at all but it's not for me, I need more room I'm afraid.
