“A most disappointing evening”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2013

Sadly this newly revamped pub did not meet expectations. Friday night is fish night......so we decided to have the 'special fish menu'..Stone crabs which are normally beautifully delicate were dripping in batter and oil. A trio of fish formed part of the main course, these were extremely small and served slightly warm....certainly not hot....and at a price of £19.99 per person, very expensive for the quantity provided..
Sadly we will not be re-visiting although the decor was very nice.

“A meal on a snowy night”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2013

The food is OK, but a bit overpriced. It has been modernised inside to suit a "younger" clientele. It has lost the atmosphere of old-world charm & comfort that it had 30 years ago when I was last in Kenilworth.
Service was good.

“Don't order the sole”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2013

The friday before last I visited the resturant in order to catch up with an old friend and with it being Friday decided to order the lemon sole with prawns and boy was that a big mistake - the fish was beautifully cooked but completely spoilt by the fact that nobody had bother to fillet the fish prior to cooking it. It was returned to the kitchen to remove the bones but the returned portion still contained too many bones to make eating it anyway enjoyable! The french fries the sole was served with were great
In an attempt to cheer myself up I went for a portion of chocolate brownie with chocolate sauce and this wasn't any better an eexperience - the brownie was ok but the sauce was dreadful seemed to be a mixture of cream and coccoa gone well wrong

“Great food. Improving all the time.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2013

We visited before refurb and it was quite poor. After refurb we visited once and service was terrible when we asked to look at food menu..saying they had no room in the restaurant and the restaurant actually didn't have a person in it. Then we ate their a few weeks later and the food was really good. I would recommend the scallops starter. and the burger main....a bit safe for a main but it is still very good. service is improving all the time. the drinks are good and the bar staff. a bit pricey i think, but most places are these days. i would visit again and recommend. good location opposite castle too.
