“Great little Italian”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2013

We had a lovely time at this restaurant - great tasty food, nice wine, friendly service - all reasonably priced. Will definately return. Beware though go hungry as the portions are huge.

“Still crazy after all these years...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2013

I've hesitated to review Francesca's because we'd prefer to keep it a neighbourhood secret! We've been coming here for many years and will continue to do so. Just simple italian food in a buzzy, friendly atmosphere, it feels a bit like a huge extended family all crammed into the house of a much loved aunt. Waiters are an entertaining mix of flirty, frumpy and matey. Food is hardly gourmet but always great flavours and great value. Deserves to be as busy as it is... but expect to queue!

“Great value and Fab food!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2013

On the outside this looks like a very typical Italain restaurant in England. We arrived at lunchtime and were impressed with the menu options, good selection of pizza, pasta and mains. They offer half pizza/pasta with salad which is a nice option at lunchtime. The other thing I noticed is how cheap everything was £5/£6 for pizza?! Inside the place was packed, service was efficient and friendly and the food was great. Total bill for 4 with drinks was £24 - incredible. When we left the place was so full they was a queue of about 10+.

“Great Value Italian Restaurant: Always Crowded Says It All!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2013

Deep in the heart of the residential and student area of Jesmond, Francesca's is probably the nearest thing to an Italian trattoria outside Italy, and I should know, because I go to Italy all the time.
The decor is a carefully constructed wreckage of bare brick, broken cornices, abandoned firplaces and flag-strewn artistically shabby walls, a perfect backdrop for the noisy crowded atmosphere you find there. The staff are all Italian, but speak Geordie English, and the service is prompt and friendly.
There are excellent pizzas on the menu for the amazing price of £4.95, but there is so much more. On my last visit I had a smoked haddock and pea risotto which was delicious. Offered a sprinkling of cheese on it, I said not with fish, but was rightly told by the waiter from Puglia that cheese is OK with smoked fish...and it was.
We were celebrating a family birthday with four generations, and it was an enjoyable experience for everyone. They deserve their reputation as the best in the area, and I hope it continues for many years to come.

“Excellent value for money and great food always”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

My favourite favourite best value restaurant- I have been going since it opened almost 30 years ago and the food is always consistently good. Lovely staff and warm friendly atmosphere.
Brilliant place to meet friends and have a great meal only down fall is that parking is becoming so difficult as the area is mostly permit parking. Always go early as no reservations and you have to queue but love Francesca's and it cannot be beaten for value for money.
