I got to Newcastle every year and was looking for a nice place to have dinner. Saw the reviews for this one and though I would give it a go and I was not disappointed. It has bags of character, locally sourced ingredients and was very reasonably priced (compared to London prices). Wine was lovely, the place was buzzing, historic setting and we had a great time. I had the cod with haggis and pea puree. It had a poached egg on top. My veggie friend had pan heggarty (never really heard of it despite previously living in the area). I must have missed that it's a local specialty. Service was good, I lowered my score because although most of the waiting staff were excellent, the guy delivering the drinks lacked a little finesse and I am being picky here. Good dessert, slightly too much for me. Wouldn't hesitate to go again. Would be a nice place for a special treat. Central locatioon near China Town.
