“Good enough for short stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

This hotel did not exceed our expectations as the one in Aberdeen the previous night but still good enough with friendly service and not as good a breakfast. Cheap car park just next to hotel was a bonus We arrived in the evening and there is enough menu's available should you need to eat in.

I stayed with some friends an our kids on a trip to Newcastle to see a show. The hotel was clean and the staff were friendly. The room was comfy but there were so many groups of guys and women staying in the hotel that it was a bit intimidating, and very noisy with drunk door banging in the night. Still it's to be expected for such good value and so close to the centre.

We booked into the Holiday Inn Express for one night to attend the theatre. We arrived early and this was no problem at all we could still check in which was quick and efficient. The standard room was perfect no issues at all. Very clean and plenty of room. Breakfast the following morning was adequate, choice of continental and hot food (sausages, beans and scrambled egg, sadly no bacon) lots of spare tables so no waiting around. Staff were pleasant and the lady on reception was very helpful, it was our first time in Newcastle so she gave up a map of the area and explained where the theatre was in relation to the Hotel. Overall a great Hotel with friendly helpful staff. We would stay here again.

Room Tip: Try and choose the top floor then no noise from above.

Stayed overnight for a friends stag night last weekend
Very friendly staff and spotlessly clean rooms - very impressive indeed
Would recommend to anyone wanting a reasonably priced hotel in central Newcastle

Room Tip: Overlooking the square is quieter

All the staff very friendly and went the extra mile to make sure our stay was the best it could be. Food was great with buffet style and rooms were very clean. Special thank you to Michael and Christopher on reception for all their kindness and their charming banter. Would definatly stay here again!

Stayed overnight here on business. Ideally placed if travelling here by train, as only a short walk. Check-in prompt and friendly. Room was a twin and overlooked the front of the hotel. Mattress appeared old and tried, but bearable for 1 night. Modern decor. Useful desk area. Shower was modern and fairly powerful. Gel provided. Thought a glass screen/door would have been more practical to the curtain provided! Especially as one section of it was glass - that separated the loo area from the shower. Hand wash provided for sink. 1 loo roll, plus one spare - cheap n cheerful, but at least it wasn't the greaseproof paper type! Good Hairdryer. Tea / coffee provided.
Breakfast was self-service. I agree the sausage and scrambled eggs were not the best, but OK. Plenty of bread for toast, fruit, cereal, yogurts etc. Choices of tea, coffee, hot chocolate etc from machine, as well as milk and orange juice. Snacks/drinks to take away in the reception area were astronomical! A sausage roll and a bottle of drink, almost £5!
All in all a good stay, for the price. Did not experience any noise, from revellers, as mentioned in previous reviews, but then this was a Thursday night!
