“Brilliant location, careful if your disabled / unsteady on feet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013 via mobile

Hi, my husband and I stayed here last Sunday for one night. The location is brilliant but it could be very noisy on a weekend due to close proximity to bars and restaurants.

The hotel is lovely, beautiful tiled hallway and mosaic floor and lovely staff. We were having an early night and decided on a takeaway. The receptionist offered us a load of DVDs free of charge and the night porter put cutlery, napkins and plates in our room.

Their is a lift but we were on the first floor and had to negotiate stairs to our room and there was stairs in our room too. Only a few but I can imagine this being troublesome if you are unsteady on your feet. You may need to stress this to reception when booking.

Also, maybe worth checking the parking situation but its a perfect location if you are in Newcastle via train.

Would recommend this hotel to lots of people.

we stopped for one night for a show at the arena great location for hotel but it could do with more prominent signage over the entrance.after looking at trip advisor I requested a top floor room before we travelled. the hotel obliged and the room was clean spacious all you would expect of a city hotel.i would certainly stay again

Room Tip: higher floors are quieter but people with mobility would have to use the lift we were in room 49 on...

Lovely hotel, next to nice food places. Close to town centre & train station. Really modern & lovely rooms. Only downsides are the tiny lift(claustrophobic) and the air con did NOT work!! Rooms were boiling hot even with windows open.

We stayed for one night whilst seeing a gig at the Arena. I have used this hotel before and found a good deal on lastminute.com. I like the location and the rooms are clean and modern and will always consider this hotel for a nights stay
Its quirky and cool if looking a little tired now. The rooms aren't big and our double had two smaller beds pushed together.
There is tea and coffee facilities and the bathroom is modern and spacious.
The lift is tiny so be prepared to use the stairs.
The location is very central and this makes for a noisy stay. Our sleep was interrupted by arguing in the street, street cleaning and a fire engine, and this was a Monday. Should be very rowdy at weekends
Dean Street car park is free after 5pm until 8am next day so park there.

Room Tip: Rooms on the street will be noisy

Great location, close to station, close to Theatre with an avenue full of every restaurant you can imagine but a few big negatives let it down. Tiny, shoebox, elevator, says for 4 people but should say, 4 small people without suitcases. Room spacious with king size bed, contemporary feel looks impressive at first until I relised that on the hottest day of the year the air conditioning doesn't work - and after complaining finding out - in any room! Which also means the heating wouldn't have been available either if it had been cold. Opening the window did no good as it just added the traffic noise and fumes on a busy street so it was a pretty uncomfortable 2 night stay. It wasn't as if we could just have a cold drink, no fridge in the room! Throwing open the curtains we assumed it was a cloudy day but realised the window was so dirty it was hard to see out. If they can't afford a window cleaner things must be bad! Sorry to sound so negative but the bad things kept cropping up, such as the bad reception on the tv, ghosting on most channels made evening viewing difficult. The bathroom was spacious as well with a good shower over the bath, although the lack of supporting rail made the entry and exit frought with danger. On the positive front, the breakfasts were very good with an excellent standard of service and ace coffee.

Room Tip: Ask if air con is working or if window cleaner has been?

Myself and a friend stayed at this hotel for a girls weekend away. We found it to be exactly what we wanted. Comfortable, clean and very central. The reception staff were friendly and answered our questions. The a/c wasn't working so it was pretty warm but we had a fan in our room so that helped.
I'm not sure I would call it a boutique hotel but for a weekend break it was ideal.

Room Tip: aim for a room on the top floor. The floorboards are pretty creaky so you'll not get disturbed b...

Grey street hotel...Otherwise known as the Niche. Stayed here for 1 night.booked a deluxe Room on the 4th floor.I chose this hotel because it was central to where we wanted to be....Surrounding pubs, Fat buddahs, and the shops...Perfect. The bed was two singles pushed together...but if my husband hadnt pointed it out i wouldnt have noticed,it was huge and very comfy. Kettle,Complimentary tea and coffee.Iron, and Ironing board.Tv and dvd player.Other reviews have mentioned poor cleanliness in their rooms....I can only comment on my own room and it was fine....The bathroom was spotless. Yes the rooms and corridors could probably do with a lick of paint...But it didnt make me feel uncomfortable about staying here. The young lad on reception was plesant and the reception area was comfortable and inviting. It would be nice to have free WIFI....it costs £7.99 for 24 hrs...thank goodness for 3G and the TV areial reception could be better....but not the end of the world. All in all an Enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: rooms on the front will have some noise from the surrounding pubs but it wasnt too bad as they have...
