We spent 2 nights at the Tulip Inn during Novembr 2006. It's a good, clean hotel with lovely large rooms. Reception staff were very pleasant and helpful, infact it would be fair to say all the staff were the same. Only problem we had was that smoking is only allowed on the 7th floor, which as non-smokers should not have been an issue for us, however despite requesting a non-smoking room we managed to arrive on the only smoking floor, I would like to think that had the hotel not been fully booked they would have moved us!!! Breakfast buffet was adequate and again the staff were good, not many tables left dirty for long. The hotel is not situated in Newcastle City Centre, it's in an industrial estate in Gateshead and unless you're looking for the city centre to be on your doorstep then it's not a problem. We drove to the Metro Centre and it only took 15 minutes, it would have been much less had there not been an accident on the A1 just before our exit junction. At night the helpful reception staff booked a taxi for us which was there before we were even able to get comfy in the lounge. The taxi took us right into Grey Street in the heart of the city at a cost of only £6. On the whole a nice weekend and we would definitely use this hotel again for another visit to Newcastle.
