“At the racecourse”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2013

Had light lunch and not too expensive. However, food was average but expected that. Ideal as the hostelry is at the racecourse and we were attending the races and Scouting for Girls Concert afterwards. The staff were young and friendly.

“Excellent Carvery! Great Choice all fresh food.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013 via mobile

We visted for a Sunday Carvery after being recommended to us by friends and I can honestly say it is one of the nicest Carverys I have had in a long time and my husband & 2 kids agreed!
It was fully booked in the dining area but we didn't mind sitting in the bar/ lounge area as everyone else was eating there too it was no different to the dining area apart from your closer to the carvery thats all but it was a little cooler for me in the lounge area which Iprefer. Staff were very welcoming a young waitress was very friendly & I think she was a manager/ head chef was very friendly going around tables making sure everything was ok. The food was delicious homemade grandma style Yorkshires & real traditional homemade gravy! The choice of veg was fantastic and the roasties were too die for. We will certainly be back again.

“Bloody fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2013 via mobile

I was recommended the Border Minstrel by a friend who regularly dines there for the fresh and local cuisine and was not a bit disappointed.

We decided to try the Sunday Lunch and even though carveries are not usually something we would opt for, we were delighted to find that everything was homemade and fresh. The staff create a nice, welcoming environment and some might even mistake them for a family. The young man and Irish girl who greeted us were extremely attentive and smiles on their faces even when it was clear they were run off their feet! Superb value for money with three courses for £12.95 . I would even pay more as I found out the meats available are all locally sourced.
